Control Pd headless from another instance of Pd on another computer?
@cfry Why it might not help much.....https://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2012-02/094145.html
What happens as Pd connects to the Gui.........https://puredata.info/docs/developer/PdStartupOrder
Command flags........ https://puredata.info/docs/faq/commandline/?searchterm=flags
You will need to start Pd with the -guiport or the -guicmd flags depending on how you will achieve your aim.
There is help mentioned at the bottom of the page for that...... here is a direct link....... https://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2007-08/052604.html ...... but it's not very helpful.
Everything would have to pass through a network connection though...... so I am not sure that things will improve.
If your VNC connection is stable you can edit your patch through the VNC viewer.
When you want to run it then you can start Pd on the RPI with the -nogui flag (see the command link above) which will help.

Problems installing pd 0.51-4 / Ubuntu Studio 16.04
@Nullstrahler said:
@bocanegra said:
You can get the latest .deb files from debians website: https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=puredata but that means you gotta figure out dependencies yourself
Thanks. That is where problems start, as I do not understand exactly what this means or how to do this.
I went over it some 6 months ago in another thread: https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/13499/couldn-t-create-sigmund/2
Basically, you download all the packages named puredata something and run them with software center / synaptic or whatever
" cd path/to/pd'
"path/to/pd" is a generic placeholder and is meant ot be substituted with the actual path you installed pd to
If there was any hints regarding the installation of pd 51-4 or some clearance where I am on the wrong path I still would be interested.
THANKS!
See the thread I linked to above. Otherwise there are repositories you can add manually: https://puredata.info/docs/faq/debian - the debian stable repo should work (same packages I am running on xubuntu 20.04)
Adding apt.puredata.info manually
You can either add this line to the bottom of /etc/apt/sources.list Or you can add it in the GUI administration program Synaptic (in the Settings -> Repositories menu, then the Third-Party Software tab). Choose the line for your version of Debian or Ubuntu from the options below:
#Debian/stable
deb http://apt.puredata.info/releases stable main
After adding this repo and doing sudo apt update
you should be able to install puredata 51.4 with apt install
Custom User interface - What are my options?
@xbix
For ios I don't know.
For Android I think processing is probably best if you want more than simple text boxes, sliders and buttons.
https://android.processing.org/gallery/index.html
There are GUI libraries on this page.......... https://processing.org/reference/libraries/ ..... but you can make your own.
Being Java though, it can be run in a browser on any OS....... so Safari for ios.
It has modules for OSC so comms with Pd (is / should be) simple....... http://www.sojamo.de/libraries/oscP5/
I have never had the time to play with it but it can be very powerful.........
Move your mouse around this window......... https://openprocessing.org/sketch/1260663
It is less than 150 lines of code.
Here is a game with Gui buttons........ https://openprocessing.org/sketch/920403

Best practise for updating Pure Data on Linux
Hi all,
some months ago I've installed Pure Data on my lubuntu 64 bit, now I'm trying to update my Pd 0.50.2 to a newer version.
When I try to update the software list with "sudo apt-get upgrade", in the result I've got this message: <<The repository "http://apt.puredata.info/releases focal Release" does not have a release file>>.
Therefore, if I write sudo apt-get upgrade puredata
I receive this message: "puredata is already the newest version (0.50.2-3)."
Now, what's the best way for updating Pure Data and do not lose my preferences?
I see that in the download page, there are many packages:
puredata-core_0.51.4-1_amd64.deb
puredata-core_0.51.4-1~bpo10+1_amd64.deb
puredata-dev_0.51.4-1_all.deb
puredata-extra_0.51.4-1_amd64.deb
puredata-gui_0.51.4-1_all.deb
puredata-gui_0.51.4-1~bpo10+1_all.deb
puredata-utils_0.51.4-1_amd64.deb
puredata-utils_0.51.4-1~bpo10+1_amd64.deb
puredata_0.51.4-1_all.deb
...
I haven't found on the web many information, so here I am.
I'm not a linux and pure Data expert at all and I don't want to do random things.
Many thanks
This Loop Machine (4 tracks) nearly perfect but.....
@Butahuruf I learnt "on the hoof" so I don't really have any recommendations apart from http://puredata.info/docs/manuals/pd/x2.htm (but don't even look at chapter 2.9 yet.......)
That site has a lot of other interesting pages like https://puredata.info/community/pdwiki/PdInternalMessages
and especially
https://puredata.info/dev/PdMessages
and for much later on when you understand all that
https://puredata.info/docs/developer/PdFileFormat
I should also recommend myself just once....... https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/9774/pure-data-noob/4 for understanding abstractions and $ variables in particular.
After all that you will have a good understanding of what is actually happening in Pd.... and so you will be able to read other peoples patches "easily"?..... unless they are a real mess.
Dr Hernandez made a lot of good videos (search for "Pure Data Hernandez").
The Floss manuals are good (search for "Pure Data Floss" and pick your language).
There is a lot out there.........

external does not load anymore
Hello,
I wrote an external a while ago and now I cant load it anymore
it's on a respberry pi, so I did not change anything about the setup nor the version of puredata nor reinstall the box
I noticed something strange is happening, in verbose mode, it tries tons of different paths, then says it can find the external (2 times) but then it fails to create it
how can I solve/debug this ?
regards

How to get libraries recognised on a portable installation of Pd for Mac
@Coalman Startup Flags....... at the bottom...
Try copy pasting the list I posted above into that small box, and adding all the libraries to the Extra folder...... as in an installed setup.
David.
PS***** another last last thought......
Are you sure that you are executing Pd on the external drive, and not just launching an installed version on the computer......?????????
Or is it looking to the prefs file of another version?
""Mac OS X
On Mac OS X the settings are stored via the native defaults system which stores things in plist files. (i.e. ~/Library/Preferences/org.puredata.pd.plist). You can edit them with the command line util defaults, like defaults read org.puredata.pd. For Pd-vanilla, they are stored in org.puredata.pd. For Pd-extended, they are stored in org.puredata.pdextended.""
Installing PureData 32 bits on 64 bits host for the life of a project
Hi everyone,
I am comming to you today because i want to make a project live !.
This project work with pureData and some external pd object :
fluid~ , freeverb~..
My objectiv is to install a 32 bits version of pureData to make external pd work.
I tried these solutions :
Multi arch ubuntu 64 bits host
- On a 64 bits ubuntu
- add i386 arch
- update , dist-upgrade..
Then when installing : $> apt-get install puredata:i386
This package is no more available :
These packet a replacing it :
puredata-utils puredata-utils:i386 puredata-extra:i386 puredata-core:i386
puredata-core puredata-dev puredata-doc puredata-extra puredata-gui
So i installed
$> apt-get install puredata-utils:i386 puredata-extra:i386 puredata-core:i386 puredata-gui
pureData is now installed. But when i run it i have this message :
ALSA lib conf.c:3357:(snd_config_hooks_call) Cannot open shared library libasound_module_conf_pulse.so
ALSA lib control.c:954:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL hw:0
ALSA card scan error
Still i can use the debugger and hear sound..
When running my stido project using some object like :
udpReceive or udpSend...
i got this on the initialisation (you can see also all the pd objects used) :
import mrpeach/routeOSC
... couldn't create
import mrpeach/udpreceive
... couldn't create
import mrpeach/udpsend
... couldn't create
import mrpeach/packOSC
... couldn't create
import mrpeach/unpackOSC
... couldn't create
import flatspace/prepend
... couldn't create
import flatspace/prepend
... couldn't create
import moocow/sprinkler
... couldn't create
import cyclone/speedlim
... couldn't create
./libs/fluid~.pd_linux: libreadline.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
fluid~
... couldn't create
freeverb~
... couldn't create
beware! this is xeq 0.1, 3rd beta build... it may bite!
./
So its not working ^^
Solution 2 - Docker
I was thinking : maybe i can just make a puredata container with all the 32 bits libs, So i tried to find some puredata 32 bits image. But nothing.. And Docker is a little tricky with 32 bits container as he didn't provide any support yet.
Still its possible to run 32 bits linux on it .. i found some 32 bits images on the net, but no way how to create one..
If someone has a solution please..
I am working as a volunteer on this project because i believe on it. I have no time yet to update the pd engine for 64 bits..
This project is helping disabled people and your respons will help me so much to provide them a long term support for this software
If you wanna take a look at the project http://orguesensoriel.com
Thank you a lot,
Damien
