Install PD extend on Ubuntustudio
I just installed Ubuntustudio 15.10 Wily Werewolf 32bit on a thinkpad and I am trying to upgrade PD to extend. I am fairly new to linux but it seems like the instructions on https://puredata.info/docs/faq/debian fails.
This is the log from executing the commands. Any suggestions and help will be appreciated

Malinette Framework
Hi Pd lovers,
MALINETTE 0.9 BETA
After some months of work, the Reso-nance Numerique team is happy to share you the 0.9 beta version of the Malinette project.
The Malinette is a software and a hardware set. The software part is mainly two things:
- a set of objects to learn Pure Data easily for children, students, artists, ...;
- a framework to help you programming interactivity.
The website is quite outdated : http://reso-nance.org/malinette
It would be nice to have some comments, feedbacks of the beta version, that you can find here : https://git.framasoft.org/resonance/malinette/repository/archive.zip?ref=master
Note that we are using Pd-extended, we need all these libraries : initbang, Gem, zexy, cyclone, moonlib, moocow, hcs, tof, comport, iemlib, iemnet or oscx or mrpeach, motex, ggee, list-abs, mapping
If you never tried the Malinette, you can find some features here : http://reso-nance.org/malinette/en/software/features
And here, all the objects : http://reso-nance.org/malinette/en/software/abstractions/home
Credits:
This project is developped by the Reso-nance numérique collective since 2012. It is used in education (schools, colleges, faculties), and also as a tool to make artistic pieces. The learning way is experimental, transdisciplinary and fun.

Newb can't use GEM
Hi, thought I'd post here even thought the thread is old before starting a new topic because my problem is exactly that as described here, though none of the suggestions have help and no one seems to have my exact error console output, which is as follows:

Any ideas? I've verified that both pd and gem are installed and at the lastest version. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10
Thanks
Ubuntu studio 11.04 step by step
well, if you want to compile at all price...
uninstall the existing version of pd
get the source: http://puredata.info/docs/developer/GettingPdSource
prepare your machine: http://puredata.info/docs/developer/UbuntuMaverick
and then build: http://puredata.info/docs/developer/BuildingPdExtended
Otherwise, why not just download the pdextended package for the ubuntu version on which is based your ubuntu studio ?

Pd-Extended for Debian
** EDIT ** I created an UPDATED version on this wiki page with steps to follow. Here:
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/DebianWheezyAmd64
Hi Nicola,
@bamboomusic said:
Hi, I've just installed Debian Wheezy amd64, but I can't be able to find a compiled Pd-Extended version for Debian 64-bit.
I checked in:
http://puredata.info/community/projects/software/pd-extended
http://autobuild.puredata.info/auto-build/and in the puredata repo, but I only found i386 versions.
Am I missing something?
I think simply there is no packaged version.
I actually managed to build the source partly following the instructions found here:
http://puredata.info/docs/developer/Debian and thanks to the script in the scripts directory in the source package - credit really goes to the authors of these
with some modifications and additions:
---- WARNING. Pretty much untested. Pd starts, no libraries complain, audio and a bunch of patches I have work with alsa and jack ----
-
Add the debian multimedia repository as explained directly on their page:
http://debian-multimedia.org/ -
Do the build-dep as explained but with a slight modification
apt-get build-dep puredata gem pd-pdp
(notice pd-pdp non not pdp)
-
Install the following packages not listed on that page:
apt-get install libmp3lame0 libmp3lame-dev ladspa-sdk dssi-dev libimlib2-dev libtheora-dev
-
Install libquicktime1 and libquicktime-dev from the official main packages *not* with apt. The links:
http://packages.debian.org/testing/libs/libquicktime1
http://packages.debian.org/wheezy/libquicktime-dev -
Get the source of Pd-extended, unpack anywere as explained in other places..
-
from the main source directory go to source dir for pidip:
cd externals/pidip/
-
configure and make pidip with the following switches:
./configure --with-pd=../../pd --with-pdp=../pdp
make -
chdir to scripts/auto-build/ from the source dir:
cd scripts/auto-build/
-
Start the ./pd-extended-auto-builder.sh script:
./pd-extended-auto-builder.sh
-
Wait...
-
Cross fingers...
-
Ignore some scary messages...
If everything went well there should be a message saying you have a deb in dir ./packages/linux_make/Pd-0.42.5-extended.deb (still from the source root): -
cd there:
cd ../../packages/linux_make/
-
Finally install:
dpkg -i Pd-0.42.5-extended.deb
By the way I got a nice .deb so maybe I could put it up somewhere, not sure about the dependencies though.
Hope this helps,
Lorenzo

Memory Issues with Leopard and PD-Extended 0.41.4 (Malloc Error)
Hi...
I'm currently looking at PD-Extended 0.41.4 not being able to handle playing back 1920 x 1080 video files. My patch is hyper-simple.... just loading two layers of 1920 x 1080 HD video files... switching videos in and out as they play using a shell command. unfortunately this process needs to continue stably for longer than a few hours (which is all I've got right now).... When I let things run, PD crashes and I get the following error in Console.
8/25/09 1:38:48 PM [0x0-0x18018].org.puredata.pd.wish[271] pd(272,0xa03ce720) malloc: *** mmap(size=4149248) failed (error code=12)
8/25/09 1:38:48 PM [0x0-0x18018].org.puredata.pd.wish[271] *** error: can't allocate region
8/25/09 1:38:48 PM [0x0-0x18018].org.puredata.pd.wish[271] *** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
8/25/09 1:38:48 PM [0x0-0x18018].org.puredata.pd.wish[271] terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc'
Any ideas? Thoughts? I'm not currently on the computer with the patch, but I can post sample content that is causing this crash later.... This is happening on a quad core Intel-Xeon Mac with 4 GB of memory.
Memory allocation and Malloc is an area where I'm less than confident and would great appreciate some insight into why this is going on.... or may be going on.
Thanks!
