New to PD and just joined the forum, great to be here :o)

My predicament is this: I want to write a patch for a sampler synth with pitch shifting without time stretching. This will be used in conjunction with a Critter and Guitari Organelle. From what I have seen, this is pretty straight forward to do with the phasor~ object via granular synthesis, however this causes the sample to loop. On the other hand, using the vline~ object allows for the sample to play on command without repetition but I can’t seem to figure out how to implement constant time.

I was wondering if anyone has figured out how to do a similar thing? Either using a phasor~ without repeats or constant time duration with vline~? Any help is appreciated :o)

If you have a working granular buffer player with phasor~, a non-looping version would delete the phasor and replace it with a line generator.

The phasor~ already normalizes the position within the buffer to the range 0 = beginning, 1 = end. The granular player then should already include the objects to convert that into a sample position. So as a starting point, your line~ / vline~ can simply go 0 to 1 and plug into the same normalized --> sample index logic. There may be some other refinements later, but start there.

You can also check the audiolab library (available on deken; Help -> Find externals). It's a collection of vanilla abstractions. Its pitch shifter might be a bit CPU hungry as it is FFT based, but it's pretty good.

you dont have to loop the sample. why cant you just end the note? you could drop the volume to zero. or you would just stop the player and reset it to zero and wait.
