GEM - how to save video
Thanks David -
is there any news regarding GEM/Video-Recording that I am missing? ...as far as I understand I´d need to use Syphon? ...but can I automatize it with PD triggers? (like using the timer_set.pd to trigger record in Syphon for a time and then trigger a playback of that recorded file in PD?)

fixing vbap so that it works on more than 16 speakers
So, a while ago I was discussing an issue on here in which vbap crashes when asked to configure more than 16 speakers. This issues turned out to be a known bug: https://sourceforge.net/p/pure-data/bugs/1012/
In the meantime Pierre Guillot has written a brilliant new vbap~ but this one, as indicated by the tilde is a audio rate object and the other is not, which makes it a lot less expensive if you are using a lot of them...which is not unlikely if you are using a lot of speakers.
LUCKILY, according to the thread in the bug report above the original vpab has been repaired! This is great news, except I cannot find it. IOhannes m zmolnig says in that bug report ""with rev.17464" is a specific revision of the vbap external (the current one), as found in the SVN repository." but I do not see it there (maybe one of you can point me to it?) and also I wonder if it will be compiled? I have been having an issue in that many of these great developments for spatial audio either do not work or windows - in particular windows 7 -or are completely macOS- centric, which is a little bit sad as Mac is such an expensive platform. I love the HOA library for example, but the cream externals it depends on do not work on windows *7) at least not in my experinece, though they work brilliantly on mac. but anyway I am on a tangent...I was just wondering if anyone can tell me how to get this fixed vbap from the SVN and if it will be compiled?
Is it possible to change Pure Data's shortcut keys?
@Monetus Thanks for the assistance! Your answers have been great, thorough and pedagogical, but in the end I'm too bad a coder to set it up. I couldn't get your last example snippet working, and couldn't mentally parse the example plugins you referred to either. So I have two questions, which is of the really humble "please help me out" variety:
Given the bare bones shortcut plugin I posted above, how would you add a shortcut to (for example) a metro object set to 100ms?
I also really want to have single keypresses (no modifier key) as shortcuts for creating objects. In the bare bones plugin above I assigned "N" to create an empty object. Problem is, as soon as I have my text cursor in an object typing, hitting "N" creates a new object, which is not my intention. How do I check for standing in an object typing, to in that case disable that single keypress shortcut?
As an appendix to that, one of the pd example plugins, quickbinings-plugin.tcl, defaults to "R" creating a recieve , and "O" creating an osc. Trying to create a metro by typing in an empty object thus creates one recieve and one osc! Broken, I would say. That plugin have a couple of checks in place, but none that checks for "already standing in an object typing". I've tried looking through other plugins and the tcl's on pd github, but fail to figure out how to perform such a check. It is a bit disheartening, to be honest,
Is it possible to change Pure Data's shortcut keys?
@youaresound said:
is there a way to use this to put a specific object ?
Yes, but I don't know how! The theory is to fill an empty object with text (through the script), to turn it into another object, for example writing "bng" in an object turns it into a bang. It is done that way in another plugin example, quickbindings, available here. Unfortunately, that plugin doesn't check if you are already in an object writing when you invoke the shortcut, so its is kind of broken. Check it out to get an idea of the theory of filling an empty object wih text through a script.
Someone more knowledgeable should seriously chime in here…
ANN library - where to get?
The readme file at https://svn.code.sf.net/p/pure-data/svn/trunk/externals/ann/README.txt
says that I have to download FANN and anyhow compile it and so on. Really weird. Don't get it. Isn't there any external or something?
ANN library - where to get?
Hi Elden,
I did find it in a svn repository. If you are on Linux, then it's just a matter of installing svn (sudo apt-get install subversion) followed by svn checkout https://svn.code.sf.net/p/pure-data/svn/trunk/externals/ann/.
Cheers,
Gilberto

Best method for rendering out GEM stream to video file?
Hi TerraByteTech,
I recently came across Syphon, software for routing video between programs in a way similar to soundflower and audio. It has a plugin for PD and a video recorder. I haven't used it a ton, but seems promising for logging video from GEM.
check out these links:

Best of luck!
