"For building a w64 Pd we open the MinGW64 shell and do:

Note the preprocessor flag: CPPFLAGS=-DPD_LONGINTTYPE=__int64

This flag is also needed to compile externals.
Once built you should copy from the compiler the 64bit version of "libwinpthread-1.dll" and for the case of Purr-data I'm not sure if other dlls are needed to run.:

So where I have to copy the dll? In windows/system32 folder?

They should be fine in the same dir as pd.exe.

I guess this is due to the fact that Pd can't statically include those libs?

Msys2 can statically include those libs but is better to check this with Jonathan. On my humble opinion on compiling I believe that purr-data don't need to be "statically linked".

@alfonso.santimone I need to install a new Windows VM for the Purr Data continuous integration builds, so I can certainly set one up to try to build a 64-bit binary. But I have no way to test it (nor any interest in testing it).

@alfonso.santimone Oh wow, a Windows 10 VM can't even run on my build machine! It's eating the entire system's memory-- I couldn't even ssh into it and had to reboot.

I could probably cross-compile on the Windows 7 VM. But I wouldn't be able to run tests so that isn't ideal.

Anyway, if you want to try compiling yourself, you can use the instructions from the 32-bit build as a guide:

You'll have to change some of the instructions and download the corresponding msys2 64-bit packages. You'll also certainly run into crashers because the Makefile for windows currently installs some 32-bit dependencies manually into the Purr Data installer package. But if you get that far I can guide you through the solutions to most of those problems.

The good news is that you don't need Lucas' preprocessor flag because we already have an ifdef for Windows 64 big in our build system.

If you can get through all that it would help the project: I could add instructions for a 64-bit Windows build and fix up the windows Makefile so it works for 64-bit. (The GUI we ship on Windows is already 64-bit so that's ready to go.)

@jancsika As soon (still some days to go) as i can free some space on my W10 audio workstation SSD i'll reinstall all the developing tools i use to have on my Win7 and i'll try to do some compiling. Given that the next milestone for Camomile by @Pierre-Guillot is to include external libraries i guess it can be helpful to compile even the 32bit only libraries for 64bit

@alfonso.santimone preemptively-- there are some paths to 32-bit stuff in purr-data/packages/Makefile which need to be changed.

For example, line 84 should be a path to the 64-bit binaries. (Also line 142 and 143.)

That's because purr-data/packages/win32_inno/Makefile has build flags that are the right arch for win32 but the wrong arch for win64.

See line 18 for example.

@jancsika thanks but i guess line numbering doesn't match...in my Makefile line 84 is empty

these are sent to all of the various Makefiles so that they all copy their

output to the same directory tree
