your opinions RE: other visual programming environments vs PD

In the else library or Automatism theres some really good ones, but I haven't found any in Vanilla.
I wish I had found ELSE early on -- if I had, I might have gotten a much better impression. (It even has a copy of my favorite SC resonator, Ringz.ar <--> [resonant~].)
For fun, here's a 1-minute clip from my last show, a duo techno improvisation with my friend Neil on Digitakt (all drums are his) and myself live-coding SC (with the help of a custom dialect for patterns). I'm especially happy with the granular piano washes (the source notes come from VSTPlugin, which you also have in Pd as vstplugin~; granular processing + delays + reverb are all SC). 23-0324-hoodoo-jam-shorter-clip.mp3
Don't forget to try https://ceammc.github.io/pd-help/,
Oh, I see, a complete alternate distribution. I had gotten discouraged when I tried to add the CEAMMC externals and found that (at that time) they didn't release them for Linux... but the alternate Pd does have a Linux version.
However, I guess I would have to build it myself, because I've adjusted some things so that the UI drives me slightly less batty. In particular, I loathe the way that dragging an object to reposition it enters edit mode -- but MSP feels that it's more important to be able to duplicate-move-type. Fine, whatever, he's wrong about that(+) but at least when I build from source I can fix it so that it works properly.
(+) Should be a user preference, but it isn't... if that weird UI decision is going to be imposed on everyone by force, then I reserve the right to be grumpy about it.
Anyway, the issue is not entirely about feature availability. It's also about workflow.

pd keep crashing when open a patch on Pi 2
Hi,

Try to search "mp3" on the forum: https://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/search/mp3?in=titlesposts&sortBy=timestamp&sortDirection=desc&showAs=posts

RPi has RAM and SD card. Until you create a tmpfs for your documents they're stored in the card.
looking for good drum synths
Check the s_808* objects in my rc-patches. They are vanilla compatible abstractions but you will need u_loader and u_dispatch from rjlib as well.
Here is an old demo with live guitar and generated drums (no samples): 2009_4-16-11_drum_test.mp3
I used to have a lot of free time and a friend (Damian ala dlib) and I spent a weekend with 808 wav recordings at different knob settings and signal block diagrams for each drum channel. We managed to work out how each was generated and do some basic "analog modeling" in Pd. I think the results are pretty good, although I didn't make the toms and the bell was stolen from Andy Farnell.
read multiple wav using readsf
It is possible that due to an old hard disk, the computer may not be able to open and play (readsf ~) multiple wav files simultaneously. One solution would be to add an SSD that would make the work of the computer system easier. But that would involve too much cost. I donțt use the audio wav files format anymore because it is difficult to read and causes many problems. Instead, I decided to convert on https://convertr.org/wav-to-mp3 all the files in mp3 format supported by any application.
Generative Drone
Here is a patch I made about a year ago that generates drones: generativeDrone.pd
I would love hear from anyone working on anything similar to this!

Ganymede: an 8-track, semi-automatic samples-looper and percussion instrument based on modulus instead of metro

Utilizing the optional effects settings.
Ganymede: an 8-track, semi-automatic samples-looper and percussion instrument based on modulus instead of metro
And here's a (little bit longer) demo of letting Ganymede control the accordion/main-gui settings, i.e. automatically control the rhythm, and me playing "producer" controlling the accordion/subproperties and ALL settings, i.e. the effects, using a taiko kit:
PELLE8001, even more chaotic music sequencer
Even more chaotic 8-step sequencer.

Each step has square wave oscillator, sine wave oscillator, wav file sampler and noise generator.
Lenght of steps can be controlled, overall and individually, and sequentially muted.
Two square wave oscillators modulate each other and a third one modulates the combined two. Optional random frequency modulation on each one of them with control for range and speed.
Sine wave oscillators can be pure, randomized with control of range and tempo, with up/down sweeps or LFO.
Samplers can be set to start and end of loop, playback speed goes from -200% (reverse playback) to 200%.
Generators and left/stereo/right outputs on each step can be sequenced.
Each step has stereo delay.
Recording to wav files possible.
Enjoy.

Proof of Concept- RNA (genetic) Sequence to Music (midi) Interpreter
Proof of Concept- RNA (genetic) Sequence to Music (midi) Interpreter
sample output: gene-seq-to-music-via-pd~.mp3
Input:
- an RNA sequence .txt file (one is provided, "data/data-001.txt");
- laid out in 3 columns of;
- g,a, c and t's;
- with either a g,a, c, or t in each column.
(The raw data is available for public use at many sites online, ex. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/advanced)
(Currently, laying the file out in 3 columns must be done manually. Though, to those more inclined, I do think it would be relatively easy to write a parser. If you do write one, please, share it below).)
Process/GUI:
- Select a pitch [0..127], velocity [0..127], and duration [0..4]={1/16,1/8, 1/4, 1/2, or whole note in 4/4 time, i.e. 125ms^x} for each of the four nucleotides, i.e. g, a, c, and t.;
- Click [open];
- Browse to a data file (example, "data/data-001.txt") and open it;
- Click Stop|Play.
Behind the scenes:
The patch cycles thru each line of the data file and bangs each line and using [makenote] constructs a note of given pitch, velocity, and duration as determined by whether the value in the 1,2, or 3rd column is g,c,a, or t.
Once that note has played for the given duration it bangs (by changing the metro delay) the next line/note.
The data file included is from the NCRI website https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/advanced page and is for "coxsackievirus B4 strain /ca/Roma partial VP1 gene", i.e. meningitis.
The .mp3 file above is an example (with quasi-random inputs for the GACT pitch, velocity, and duration values. "Quasi" especially since I do not understand midi, chords, scales, etc.. I would think, if one knew such things, they would make the pitches form a chord.)
I hope you find this as fun(ny) as I do.
Peace, go with Love, and Music flowing out of your heart,
-Scott
p.s. the synth used is from "pd-help/J08.classicsynth.pd". If you need any help getting this working, just let me know and I will be happy to provide as much as I can.
Psychedellic Audioguide using MobMuPlat or PdParty
Hello,
I make psychedelic audioadventures, guiding multiple, synchronized people with headphones into wonderlandish stories. Sometimes leading them to crazy places that I acoustically augment with soundtracks and binaural stereorecordings from the exact places where people walk bye to create pré- and déjà-vu-ish time-flashs (iE you hear the door infront of you and the white, invisible rabbit tells you that you are too late - so you open the door, hear/feel the exact sound again...and again…). Using synchronized instructions I puppeteer multiple participants into interactions.
I used to manually synch multiple mp3-players but also worked with free gps-audioguide software. Also I have a little yet not perfect web-app-flasmobgenerator to synchronize up to an infinite amount of players with individual audio streams.
One of my biggest inspirations was the RjDj-app that was released at the beginning of the iTimes but sadly shortly after taken from the app store - and now after all this years I finally discovered the Mobmuplat and PdParty-apps and the possibility to not only play the old RjDj-scenes but also to modify them …so I decided to learn some PD! ..which is really not easy at the very beginning, but it literally opens worlds and my brain is working hard to understand all this amazing scenes and different patches out there…
First I really want to thank you from my heart for all this amazing and inspiring works - especially for sharing it! This makes me so very happy and I feel this is really the way it should be (well, a little easier maybe)!
2nd I want to apologize for my questions - i feel still so stupid PD-wise…but:
I am trying to learn how to port a PD-patch to MobMuPlat or PdParty.
Mainly I try to trigger recordings, playbacks and live-effects by a clock.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2643812/AlicePD.pdAlicePD.pd
Today I managed to write a patch that records two samples (A and
and to plays them back later in a different order (BA).
I found a way to let the sec counter trigger a bang to the recordings/playbacks but I still don´t know how I could add the minutes into that trigger (iE record at 3m14s for 10s)?
In one of the tutorials I´ve heard that there are different ways to record sound: one to memory and one to disk and that a disk recording might stop audio playbacks?
How could I timetrigger live-effects - iE at 4m33s the reverb for the mic-in slowly gets bigger for 1min and then fades back to normal // or the same with a delay // or with a voicepitch rising or falling // or with the volume of the unfiltered live-monitoring (adc~ -> day~) or the volume of the audiofile that plays back simultaneously ->
Is there any way to play back an mp3/or Ogg-file with PdParty or MobMuPlat? I found some unofficial patches that seem to be able to let PD stream shoutcast/or icecast mp3-streams and also sth related to ogg(unofficial), but I don´t really understand if it is possible - and HOW? And on MubMuPlat/PdParty?? It´s just that I can´t put an 1hr wav-file onto peoples iThing.
I found a LANdini tutorial patch and an Ableton-link-patch and now I am wondering if i could somehow synch multiple phones at the same time to play back different audio files at each device while applying 1. /2. and 3. …and if it is maybe even somehow possible to do that via web?!
I am a bit confused about using PD-extended or unofficial or 0.47xyz(vanilla?) …Which one is better to use for the MobMuplat/PdParty development? PdParty seems to name several objects differently, which doesn’t´t allow me to run/test the scenes on my Mac - is there any editor or sth like->
I found an old app from the RjDj development: RJC-1000, but I can´t make it work. Anyone managed to use this app? It seems so much easier then MobMuPlat-editor(+PDwrapper) to connect the patches with a user interface. Did anyone managed to create a working MobMuPlat-interface? I couldn’t´t find any tutorials on that. Would be so great to understand that part.
I also found several scenes and patches that make use of the GPS-data and I would love to learn more about that and understand those patches to use GPS as triggers for my Audiotours. Is there anyone who could help me or maybe even make a tutorial on that?
Last but not least: when switching between apps (macSierra) with cmd+tab to PD (extended and 0.47, too) I have to do it everytime twice …drives me really mad - anyone has the same problem or any idea how to solve this ?!
Is there anyone in Berlin who I could meet to learn sth?
Thank you all for your help and if you come to Berlin one day, please let me guide you to Wonderland!
BÄm
