Hi everybody, I've worked on PD-extended until today, but now I would like to use vanilla, since extended version is not up-to-date anymore.

I can't manage to install the library I need to have the same object I've always used in ext version , like the objects that belong to the cyclone, zexy, or gem libraries.
I would like to know exactly what I need to do step by step to install all those library. I'm a mac user.

This is what I did: I downloaded Pd-extended 64 bit (beta) --> Show Package --> Resources --> extra and I've copied gem, cyclone, pddp, zexy in a Pd folder that I've put in /User/Library/. In the same folder I've put deken-plugin.tcl.

Exerything seems to be ok, but if I try to create an cyclone lib's object or gem's I get these errors:

What is wrong?

Is there a reason why you don't want to install these libraries through Deken and doing the workaround with manually copying the files?

Anyway, in regards to your specific error: are you using 32 bit PureData? I see on your screenshot that it's trying to load the drunk object but the architecture for which it was compiled doesn't correspond to your PD or your system: "Platform detected: Darwin-x86_64-32bit".

Most of the errors have to do with [gemwin] where instead of an object it loads an abstraction (check for yourself) and there are some objects in this abstraction that are missing. I had this before but I can't remember how it was created and how I got it solved.
As for Gem, if you have a Gem.pd_darwin (meaning the whole library compiled as one object) then you must include it with a startup flag or with [declare].
For a startup flag go to Preferences -> Startup... and in the "Startup flags" filed type -lib Gem
If you don't want to have the library being loaded on startup, use [delcare -lib Gem] in the patch that you want to use Gem.
Maybe this will solve your problem.

Now, why [drunk] can't be created... I don't really know..

@lzr Actually, I didn't understand how Deken works! May you please explain me?
I'm using PD.0.46-7-64bit. I friend suggested to download the PD-extended 64 bit beta version and to grab from that the libraries I need (gem, cyclone and zexy). Is it correct?
Please, help me to find the right way to install library from the beginning (since I'm almost a beginner in PD because I come from Max).

I have 2 questions for you..........
Do you need the 64bit precision for some reason? High precision math? Audiophile patch design?
Is there anything new in Vanilla that you need and don't have in extended?

0.46 is still quite buggy, and you could be making a lot of work for yourself for little or no gain.
I don't think that gem is prepared for 64bit as it relies on 32bit api's, although I could be very wrong about that.......

@nonno: Deken is a plugin that allows to install libraries from an online repository. Latest versions of PD Vanilla have Deken pre-installed (Help -> Find Externals). You can use it to install gem, cyclone and zexy. This way you won't have to install Extended and copy files manually.

So, In PD Vanilla 0.46-7 (32 bit) there's no Find Externals in Help menu, but only Tcl prompt. Should I use 64 bit version or, following whale-av suggestion, 32 bit version? In this case, which operation do I have to do to install libraries?

Latest vanilla doesn't have deken installed. The next vanilla release will have it. For now go to deken's page and copy the deken-plugin.tcl and put it in ~/Library/Pd/deken-plugin (actually on my mac I put it in /Library/Pd/deken-plugin, you'll might need to create the "deken-plugin" directory). Once it's there, Pd should see it and you should get the "Find externals" menu under Help..

After installing an external via deken you need to use [declare] right? I tried [declare -stdpath zexy] but still trying to use [zexy/l2s] was not working. Do I still need to use [zexy/...].

I am trying to convert my pd-extended patch to vanilla like everybody!

@EEight I think you should use [declare -lib zexy]. I tried stdlib but it didn't work for me either...
Of course, once you declare the library you shouldn't need to prepend its name in the object creation..

Ok, I've followed your instructions. Deken is ok.

Then I installed the first library (zexy/2.2.6svn). Is it the right one?

Then I tried to install Gem and Cyclone, as well. This is how my Pd folder under /User/Library/ looks like.

As you can see, I get error both for cyclone and Gem.

I put this line in the Startup Flag field:

-lib zexy/zexy -lib cyclone/cyclone -lib Gem/Gem

Is it correct?

If I want to use a zexy object like "nop", I have to write zexy/nop inside the object, even if I loaded library on StartUp putting -lib zexy/zexy in the flag field. If I only write "nop" inside the object I get an error.

I'm testing it both in 32 and 64 bit.

For cyclone you don't have to load it on startup but you have to include its path to Pd's search path. For zexy and Gem you need the startup flag. But why do you write -lib zexy/zexy? You should write -lib zexy
The same goes for Gem. The comments say that Gem/Gem can't be loaded. Just write -lib Gem in the startup flags..
As I can see in your console comments zexy is loading. I can't understand why you need to write [zexy/nop] instead of just [nop].
In ~/Library/Pd you can get rid of the .zip files.

@alexandros Thenk you again for your help. I've fixed the line in StarUp field, but I still get an error when Gem is loaded.
As you can see, some zexy's objects work without prefix, some not. All the cyclone objects need the prefix cyclone/.
Is there a way to avoid that?

The cyclone objects need the prefix because you haven't set the correct path to Pd's search path. You've set the Pd/ directory (as I can see from your image) while you should set the cyclone directory which is probably in the Pd directory.
I just realized that [nop] is an abstraction and since you load zexy as a library (which is correct) the path to the abstraction is not set, so you need to prepend "zexy". This doesn't apply to zexy's objects, but only to abstractions. The objects are included in the zexy.pd_darwin file, while the abstractions are not.

Are you sure you have a Gem directory in ~/Library/Pd and that in there there is a Gem.pd_darwin file?

As you can si, I've fixed ht path and startup flags. Now I can load cyclone and zexy objects withitou prepending the librarie's name. The only problem I still have is in GEM: I get an error on startup and the PD windows report many errors when I load a gem object, as you can see in the image. What I can do?

Sorry.. Late..

But I'm using vanilla with some libraries, and I did the download of library with deken, and add in Pd -> Preferences -> Path... the directory library which is installed in ˜/Library/Pd/libraryInstalledWithDeken .

For Gem, I do like IOhannes splain in this thread: http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2015-08/111112.html

Resuming:

• Download Gem and the bugfix from: http://gem.iem.at/
• Install following instructions.

Here the things are working..

ps.: Gem have only 32bits compilation, pd-vanilla 32bits is required to have Gem working well.

I think Denken plugin is awesome. So long I have been able to use zexy/maxlib objects in vanilla.

I tried the same for Maelstrom's phasor objects (http://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/10192/vphasor-and-vphasor2-subsample-accurate-phasors
) but I couldn't find them when using Help ---> Find Externals.
I'm using vanilla 0.47.1.

Any hints on this?
