I have just started using video in PD and I have an idea that I want to save a clip from my webcam and then replay this clip. Looking at the example GEM patch 00.SimpleVideo.pd the webcam is working OK but can I please ask if someone can advise how I can get started saving a short clip and also please suggest the best way it can be played back ? Thanks

GEM - how to save video

@kmll Hello there......
You should work your way through this part of the floss manuals........
http://en.flossmanuals.net/pure-data/ch047_introduction/
Towards the end is a bit about recording using [pix_record] (some .png images but you can modify some stuff to do your movie recording).
More help here........ http://forum.pdpatchrepo.info/topic/9656/best-method-for-rendering-out-gem-stream-to-video-file
Playback is much simpler using [pix_film]

Thank you very much for the links. Now I know where to start:)

@pooopsi Seems to be. I think it has moved here...... https://en.flossmanuals.net/pure-data/video-gem-tutorials/moving-images
It has a security problem with it's https certificate..... but seems clean.

Thanks David -
is there any news regarding GEM/Video-Recording that I am missing? ...as far as I understand I´d need to use Syphon? ...but can I automatize it with PD triggers? (like using the timer_set.pd to trigger record in Syphon for a time and then trigger a playback of that recorded file in PD?) -

...still can´t connect/open the site.

@pooopsi The site has a security error....... in IExplorer I just click "ok ignore" but maybe your browser has some other way of bypassing security.
There are some objects for Spout (windows equivalent of syphon) https://puredata.info/downloads/spout-for-pd-gem (someone else might search here for that).
And for OSX...... https://puredata.info/downloads/syphon-for-pd ....... but not a stable release.
You could try VPT7........ https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/vpt-forum/E4ggcYU5sk4 (scroll to first post and open it) for recent versions of OSX.........
It can deal with syphon, and you can talk to it through OSC messages, Midi, DMX etc.
It is a superb video tool, that you should have on your machine anyway. No "installation" required (for windows but osx?).
Be prepared to read the detailed manual though, or you will be "lost" very quickly......

@pooopsi P.S.....This might be usable as a patch........
http://write.flossmanuals.net/pure-data/recording/
......replacing a [pix_image] with [pix_video]

I think pix_record is the way to go if you want immediate playback, and always worked for me on windows linux and osx.
Syphon is faster, but if you do it all in Pd, you have the naming right there to process further.
