'Life in Pure Data' is a sonic fiction story about a flute maker's fatal obsession with frequencies. It's all done with Pd-processed voice and manipulated acoustic instruments. No synths, no prerecorded samples. Here's a stream:

I really wasn't expecting that outfit. Great work. Reminiscent of Laurie Anderson.

Very cool. I had this playing earlier while my roommate had guests over. They all eventually wandered in the room to listen. It was fun explaining the the math and Pd references.

Also, you have an AMAZING voice for story telling!

Acreil, thanks for bringing back to mind Laurie Anderson. She must have been an inspiration for me, subconsciously. I'm enjoying tons of her video's these days. This is my favourite so far, no surprise it is a fantasy about numbers, and with manipulated voice:

Maelstorm, my 'story telling voice' is for a large part the effect of pure data manipulation. I use heavy compression (qompander~), pitch shifting (soundtouch~) and minimum phase FIR filtering. Oh, and an ultra-close-miked condenser mic with 'dead kitten'. Together, these techniques make a voice much more detailed than in real life.

It is not so sad as it sounds. 'Dead kitten' points to a fake fur windshield like reporters use them for outdoor recordings. I found that a dead kitten is also very useful on stage. A condenser mic packed in it can withstand all sorts of manual and vocal abuse. I make them myself, but yesterday I found this nice video showing DIY dead kitten:
