• ### Help with PD Homework

Hey. So this teacher of mine gave me this homework to do:

Homework: Ø Using the object sigmund~ to control the velocity of the video using amplitude of a blowing sound into the microphone. Study the pix_film-help.pd file from Gem to play a movie file and the objects count-help.pd and metro-help.pd.

Consider it was just a single PD class in which we just learned the basics. Step by step, how do I do this?

• @TOBuhrer I would start with the second part, which should be easy (count is from the cyclone library, but you can build a simple counter easily by yourself). Then I would ask the teacher what he means with velocity of the video. Then just connect a mic to sigmund~ and the env from sigmund to the velocity of the video. Edit: If I understand it right, the video velocity is in this case the amplitude controlled speed of the video?

• @TOBuhrer Counter patch :

• @TOBuhrer I just made a patch for this........ so.......
Things to consider.

1. The microphone volume...... after [sigmund~ env] you need to reduce the numbers arriving towards zero when you are not blowing....... maybe [-] with a fader on the right inlet.
2. You probably don't want to go backwards so stop negative numbers that could arrive because of step 1........ [moses 0]...... right outlet..... then into the counter.
3. You need to control the range of velocity change....... a [/] and another fader for that......... I put it after the the counter.
4. Best to send whole numbers (to send the frame number) into [pix_film] so [int] before it's right inlet.
5. Probably good to have the video loop...... so get the total frames from [pix_film] and reset the counter when it reaches that value.

@Boran-Robert's counter is fine..... very standard practice...... but you don't want the metro...... feed the volume after the [-] into it instead because you want the number to grow faster with more volume.
The video will drop frames as the speed increases...... which is a good solution and invisible to the eye.

Have fun......... and if you get desperate just ask and I will post the solution with some notes. Best you work on it so that you understand though.
David.

• @Jona There s a video of a dandelion. When you blow the microphone the video is supposed to speed up to the scene when the dandelion unmake itself, as if you are actually blowing it.

• @whale-av oh please post the solution. This is a nightmare already haha

• @TOBuhrer Probably the solution.zip
Let us know why not though if it doesn't do what you want.
Make sure you understand it before you hand it over.
David.

• the teacher sent us this hint

• In front of zero he says "This is the value you should manipulate"

• @TOBuhrer Please download from my post above again.......... it is late and I missed a bit out.......
The patch takes care of the number of frames automatically.
David.

• @TOBuhrer Time for bed.
In case you only want it to run once and not depend on how hard you blow........ blow-me-once.pd
David.
