Trouble interfacing pduino arduino on mac mini
I am trying to get my patch to run on a mac mini intel core duo 10.5.4 version. The arduino software is the latest. PD extended latest version. I|ve installed firmata and the pduino software on the board, and The arduino icon is also showing up and is no longer red, but is not registering the analogue signals from the board. I|ve also made sure that I have rgistered the correct board and usb connection, while installing firmata.
If I switch the usb cable over to my macbook pro and the installation runs seamlessly.
The only thing i can think of is that i need an older version of arduino software, the same that|s on the macbook pro. I don|t know how to uninstall the driver on the mac mini for an earlier version. If you could help, I would greatly appreciate.
Please help, am unexperienced, but have had the patch run on another mac mini

Tilde on mac in PD?
damn, i tested this on a newer macbook set to danish layout and it worked.
well, sorry then, if u can't find a solution on the web, u'll have to take your macbook to the next apple-store and let them search the key. might be funny though.
USB Mic ?
Hey guys, I'm very much a PD beginner, currently attempting to use it to just analyse input from a Microphone and create some values, that I am then passing to Processing and using as RGB values.
I have managed to get everything working great with the built in Mic on my Macbook.. Unfortunately I need to get it working with an external Microphone and Macbooks don't have a Microphone In, they have a Line In, that doesn't power devices.
Because of that I've had to get a little USB adapter that allows me to plug the mic in through the USB and it works well, my Macbook picks up the Mic.. Unfortunately Pure Data doesn't seem to see the USB mic at all..
I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong.. If anything needs to be changed when using USB input.. I'm just using an [adc~] thing at the moment.. Maybe I need to use a different kind of object or something to bring the USB sound in?
Any help would be fantastic, thankyou.
Recording samples???
You know, most people I know who've dealt with MacBook hard drive failures (which is quite a few as my school requires students to have MacBook Pros) have had them die within a year or two, so they may just not have a great lifespan.
Of the two people i know that have macbooks bought about 2 years ago, their hard drives have failed and been replaced. I remember the iBooks had cracked logic boards a few years back and loads had to be recalled. I heard that Apple trying to source cheap labour and parts. Things like too much thermal paste on the cpu leading to overheating and causeing all sorts of problems.
Touch wood my first generation 17" powerbook is still trundling along nicely, albeit slowly!
any how i digress.....

hmm...
...I should go back my stuff up...
GEM on Linux Laptop
I currently use a Macbook (OS 10.5) for all my PD patching. However, as I am primarily focused on using GEM for live video performance alongside musical groups, I am thinking about getting a second laptop for performances (to keep my Macbook safe).
I'm thinking of getting an Acer Aspire One netbook running linux.
I'd like to know the pros and cons of this.
-Will swapping patches between Mac OS and Linux be a problem (I'm guessing no, but I figured I'd ask)?
-I've heard of some problems with VGA out on Linux laptops, is this going to be an issue?
-Does the netbook have enough processing power for general GEM applications? I'm generally not dealing with video files, but rather particle generation, shape manipulation, GIF texturing, and audio-response.
-Are there any other issues that you think of given this scenario? (and if so, what other affordable/really-cheap laptops are there out there that I can run linux on)
Looping a 1Gb Wav file
You can route audio to Pd from another audio player (i.e. winamp, itunes, etc.) by using audio routers like jack, sunflower - depending on which platform you are running your Pd. Once that's done, you don't need to buffer anything in Pd, thus can save your cpu power for other operations you need to apply to your audio file.
Dedicated Laptop (The Big Question)
i am on just a lowly macbook 10.4.11 with 2g or ram and 1.83ghz core duo
and it suites my needs for ableton and pure data i usually have them running at the same time and it works great
honestly my suggestion as i used PCs my whole life up until a couple years ago (not that i don't have parallels up and goig with a copy of XP) but with my using macs i have not had nearly as much in that way of reseting for no reason and generally testing your patience
and since apple just updated the original white macbooks specs to pretty much cover the new macbooks without some of the flash i would say at 999 the white macbooks are great up to 4g of ram (albeit its not DDR3 but still)
i have been halfway considering selling my old one and getting a new one or just scraping that whole plan and getting a used 17' imac which can be found pretty cheap under 700 if you look around
What hardware do you run Pd on?
I'm running a compaq laptop with a 2.1 ghz intel spu and a gig of ram, with fc8 on it. I'm also borrowing an alienware with 2gb of ram and a 3.4ghz amd cpu for doing live video processing (windozeXP).
then my desktop machines are a 3.4ghz amd64 with a gb of ram (fc8/ubuntu), and a sawtooth g4 powermac(I still hold that the design is the zenith of apple hardware) which runs os10.4 and ubuntu.
