So Pd 0.48 or earlier...... or extended are maybe solutions but not if you are running 64-bit only osx.
Unless you can find replacement 64-bit binaries for osx?

Just a guess of course....... the makefile should give some clues.

VPT can send and receive osx and midi....... so it can be a solution alongside Pd if you fail.

HOWEVER......@cfry you can use a standard object.....[pix_movement]

@Remork Not using osx..... but I believe that Pd hands over to Tk (the wish app) for the opening of file browser windows. The window that is blank is an osx file browser window..... so very strange.
Maybe it has not been told "where" it is in the directory tree but that it lacks its window control buttons is even more strange.
The fact that it is an intermittent fault makes it harder to diagnose.
I wonder if it has anything to do with Mac "state-saving" since osx 10.7......... https://puredata.info/docs/faq/help-pd-crashes-on-startup-on-mac-osx-10-7
If not then post as a bug to the list using Pd Menu Help "Report a Bug" and go back to Pd 0.49 for a while?

@xavierbonfill The wish app should be a part of OSX.
Sorry, I am not using OSX, so I cannot check where the files should be.

I cannot think of anything else (other than what I have written above)....... except that it is strange that you do not have an org.puredata folder.
Maybe Pd did not install, having been blocked by the OSX security, or has been installed for another user or for the guest and you do not have permission to access it.

@xavierbonfill Before you try any of the below you should try the solutions in the link I have posted at the bottom.....

If that doesn't work.....
Do you have "wish.app" on your system....... the tcl/tk app..... or have you removed it?
If it is there then something is blocking the port. When you first ran Pd maybe the OSX security system asked if you wanted to allow access for Pd to the local (private in OSX speak?) network and you denied it?
If there are firewall permission settings in OSX then maybe you can fix it there.
Pd and the wish.app talk over a "port" on the local network.

If none of the above, maybe the Pd allocated port is already in use....... because it was not closed.
Maybe Pd terminated badly and something held the port..
You should check whether wish or pd are still actually running.
If you never re-boot your computer you should try doing that.

but for mac osx.
I get the data from an old wacom pen- tablet (graphire 4 / cte440) using hidio.

But is there a way to keep the mac operating system from using it as mouse input?

When I plug the tablet, it works out the box as a mouse, but I cannot access any configuration settings. The wacom drivers are outdated and do not work on newer osx versions.
I think I shoud do something with kextunload command, but I cannot figure which extension is driving the pen-tablet

@ni I also think that is quite frustrating. I also mostly work on OSX and am not updating for that exact reason. I did*t encounter the problem that way and i don't have a solution. Other than that Pd is really great. I would install a dual boot Linux just for Pd, or downgrade OSX in your case. Whereas Gem on OSX is still 32bit, which gives it a limited RAM access (up to 3Gb i believe) and on linux everything is 64 and nice as far as i know.

@pooopsi The site has a security error....... in IExplorer I just click "ok ignore" but maybe your browser has some other way of bypassing security.

There are some objects for Spout (windows equivalent of syphon) https://puredata.info/downloads/spout-for-pd-gem (someone else might search here for that).

And for OSX...... https://puredata.info/downloads/syphon-for-pd ....... but not a stable release.

You could try VPT7........ https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/vpt-forum/E4ggcYU5sk4 (scroll to first post and open it) for recent versions of OSX.........
It can deal with syphon, and you can talk to it through OSC messages, Midi, DMX etc.
It is a superb video tool, that you should have on your machine anyway. No "installation" required (for windows but osx?).
Be prepared to read the detailed manual though, or you will be "lost" very quickly......
