Hi!

On Mac OS X I'm using Pd 0.45.4 with a path pointing to /Applications/Pd-extended.app/Contents/Resources/extra (Pd-extended 0.43.4).

I'm getting this error message on Pd 0.45.4 startup:

UNHANDLED ERROR: version conflict for package "Tk": have 8.4, need 8.5
while executing
"package require Tk 8.5"
("uplevel" body line 10)
invoked from within
"uplevel #0 $tclcode"
FAILED TO LOAD /Applications/Pd-extended.app/Contents/Resources/extra/search-plugin/search-plugin.tcl

I checked my Tcl/Tk version, it's 8.5.9.

Anyone experiencing the same issue?

I wanted to report that this is happening on mac os x. I did install and uninstall pd-extended having not realized that pd-vanilla was so far ahead, so maybe that accounts for the conflict. As far as I can tell i only have 8.5 installed, but I will experiment on installing 8.6 and get back.

So, as far as I can tell, for anyone who might want to use most of the gui plugins on mac, you will have to recompile PD with a newer version of tcl/tk.

Here in the src/mac folder the readme explains:

Note: The "wish-shell.tgz" is an archive of this app I found on my mac:
System/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/Versions/8.4/Resources/Wish Shell.app
A smarter version of the scripts ought to be able to find that file
automatically on your system so I wouldn't have to include it here.

Hi guys, I've got a problem. I have just installed both 8.5 and 8.6 too, But I still get the same error. Any help?

Is your problem the same? ....... the search-plugin mentioned is part of extended. The kiosk-plugin I don't know?
Which version of Pd have you installed on your Mac and where? Is it "installed" where it expects to be installed. Is tcl/tk installed where the plugin could expect to find it or just downloaded to a folder? Is it a plugin that is complaining?
What is your "error" message.....
Paths are a perennial problem for Pd....... it has fingers in many pies.

@balandino_dd Sorry about "kiosk" I was looking at the whole thread to understand.
Search-plugin is not part of vanilla as far as I know. How did it get into the search path? Have you imported it? Do you need it?

You could delete it. All "xyz-plugin" files are optional. They are only imported if found in the paths list. In extended it builds a list of all files in all of the search paths that can be "text" searched, and is not that useful as it drags up some hundreds of answers for a query like "osc" (every file you have ever created with an oscillator or an osc object.) and doesn't keep an index so is slow. When you first start with Pd it helps find objects, but throws up licences etc. as well. As you become more experienced you use it less and less, and then the day that you need it it throws up an un-decipherable mess of everything that you have done since you started.

You could change the line "package require Tk 8.5" at line 10 in the plugin to "package require Tk 8.4" and hope that it did not really need 8.5 (yes... not great)...... or
.......... you will need to search through http://puredata.info/ for clues about the the correct paths..... but??

On Mac OS X, the Wish/Tk interpreter is contained in the Pure Data application provided.
It is bind to the 8.4 dylib.
Consequently it doesn't do nothing to have 8.5 or 8.6 somewhere if you don't change that.

Yep. And AFAIK you don't have to recompile.

The otool blahblah was just to show the dylib command.
It doesn't matter at all in changing the Tk Framework. Forget it.

First, please make a copy of the application in its own folder to avoid the mess.
Secondly, locate the 8.5 Framework on your machine.

/System/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/Versions/8.5/Resources/Wish.app
/Library/Frameworks/Tk.framework/Versions/8.5/Resources/Wish.app

I mean just make a copy of the Pd application. If you change its contents it could break it.

It seems (after searching on the web) that many things changed with El Capitan.
Concerning the location of the frameworks and security signatures...
Frankly i doubt i can do it without a properly set machine in front of me (and a couple of days).

AAAAAAA!!!!!! I guess that I have to swap to max in the next few days then... That's so annoying.

@balandino_dd No........ just delete the search-plugin folder. In vanilla I doubt that you even have the "help" "search" menu item available, which means that you don't have access to it anyway......
You will still have the "find" dialog for searching within patches........

@Jojo-Lapin I tried your terminal commands with OSX 10.8.5, pd 0.46-7, and activeTCL 8.6.4. Unfortunatly i - ignored Disclaimer - didn't really understand what i was doing. So thats what happened:

1. There is no version.plist in the wish app so i updatet the version-nr in that plist file in pd-app by hand
2. it worked, now i can use the plugins. e.g. drag&drop (for patches), plugins plugin..
3. other things don't work anymore ore react strange. worst: right mouse click doesn't work, deken doesnt work
   maybe i try with pd-0.47, and tk 8.5 later.
   Big THANKS allready, i miss the plugins for quite a while now!

AhAh, that's the reason why most of the times i avoid to post scripts.
People never respect the warnings.
And i am probably the first that doesn't!

ActiveTCL doesn't have any version.plist provided with, it works perfectly without.
