Hello PD Forum!

I am trying to build a MIDI to DMX convertor in Pure Data and I am completely stumped at how to achieve this! Is there anyone out there with any ideas on how to do so?

I'm not sure what I need to download if anything and its all just really foreign to me.

Hey Rob--did you end up getting anywhere on this? I'm about to start experimenting with something along these lines and would be interested to hear your experience.

@seanjean3000 Input of midi is easy.... it is "built in" to Pd.
Converting the midi to dmx values (0-127) on a dmx channel (1-255) in a universe is very easy once you have decided what you want the midi to "mean".
Outputing DMX is difficult. I do it with an Enttec Dmx Pro usb to dmx interface from a Raspberry Pi running Pd.. Others have tried (and succeeded?) with Arduino. Others (succesfull or not?) using the rpi gpio pins.
That is the place to start your research.... how to output the dmx.

The Arduino DmxMaster shield is pretty good. I've heard that it is OK up to some number of channels, and then it starts to lag. But if you want to control a few channels, it should be OK.
I've also used the LanBox with Pd and [comport], but that's a pretty expensive piece of equipment.
