Just thought I'd throw this out there.

Think it might do some people some good to write it down...for new people's sake(?).

• it's very close to being object oriented. Though I don't know enough about OOP to say exactly why it isn't. Though I do know enough to say it is very close.

• you can program in it Anywhere. You don't have to be at a computer to write down your code.

• it thinks like I do: in thought maps.

• "If you can dream it. Then you can build it."

• The Community. 2nd only to, if not better than, the only other community I ever found (online) to be as giving, tolerant, and kind: the Puppy Linux community.

As I understand OOP (being a longtime user of a Smalltalk derivative for audio), it's mainly about polymorphism and encapsulation.

Polymorphism is that different objects can serve as drop-in replacements for other objects, to allow the behavior to be modified without breaking programming interfaces. Pd message passing can be polymorphic, but the design of the object library seems not to be very OOPy so I don't see polymorphism figuring very prominently in Pd patch design. (By contrast, polymorphism is a big part of SuperCollider. One concrete example is that I have a Voicer object for note stealing, slurs etc. If it contains SynthVoicerNodes, then it plays using SC's native synthesis. But I can also give the same parent class a set of MIDIVoicerNodes and the same top-level API will send MIDI out to e.g. VCV Rack. This kind of polymorphism is certainly possible with abstractions in Pd; I'm just not certain how often it's done.)

Encapsulation is trickier in Pd because of global namespaces. $0 is an effective workaround for that, up to a point (though I think this doesn't work in [pd] subpatches...? Could be wrong about that but I think I had problems with copy/pasting subpatches before).
