So, one can use connect to connect two objects in a subpatch. Can one do that in the patch itself?

For instance:

In a patch titled PATCH, one can create a subpatch called SUBPATCH.

Create an inlet and and outlet.

; pd-SUBPATCH connect 0 0 1 0

Is there a way to connect two objects in the actual patch without making an upper subpatch?

Confusing.

Instead of [ ; pd-SUBPATCH connect 0 0 1 0( do [ ; pd-PATCH.pd connect 0 0 1 0( - same goes for all the other "undocumented messages" here: https://puredata.info/docs/tutorials/TipsAndTricks#patch-messages .

Another question. . . not totally related. . . . is there a way to detect the object # of an object without going to the textedit to look at the list and figure out which # is an object?

@raynovich Yes, iemguts/canvasselect gets you most of the way, but I remember Liam Goodacre @LiamG making a patch that allows you to select objects in edit mode and connect/disconnect them.
