Hello,
I'm a beginner.
I just downloaded PD on my computer but I'm having trouble launching it (macOS 10.13.4).
It crashes on start-up.
PLEASE HELP!
Thank you very much!

PD crashes on start up - HELP!

@jeszczetutaj Could be...... if the icon is bouncing in the dock......
http://puredata.info/docs/faq/Pd_not_launching
or if it did start once and now will not....
http://puredata.info/docs/faq/help-pd-crashes-on-startup-on-mac-osx-10-7
or something else?

Thank you!
I tried in my old computer and it works.
But, it still doesn't an the new one.Where would look for this?
The default under OS X looks like this:
Host Database
localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhostThanks!

@jeszczetutaj I don't have a Mac, but I think it is in /etc/hosts
If you open a terminal (applications, utilities) and type...... nano /etc/hosts and hit return you should see its contents.
If you need to change it do the same but type ....... sudo nano /etc/hosts and hit return and enter your administrator password.
More here....... https://www.imore.com/how-edit-your-macs-hosts-file-and-why-you-would-want
with maybe a safer way to edit/reset the file towards the bottom of the page.

@whale-av
Thanks so much for your help.
I found the Terminal and typed: nano /etc/hosts and hit returnBut what do I have to do when I get there??
Sorry for my very basic questions....

@jeszczetutaj Does it look correct........
127.0.0.1 localhost255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhostIf it does then that is not the problem.
If not then follow the "host file reset to default" instructions in https://www.imore.com/how-edit-your-macs-hosts-file-and-why-you-would-wantAnother thought........
Did you download the correct version for OSX....... there are three.... "Power PC" and "Intel" 32-bit and "Intel" only for 64-bit......... https://puredata.info/downloads/pure-data

@whale-av
Hi again!
Sorry I was away.
I still can't do it...
When I go Terminal and get to the GNU nano window it's empty.This:
Host Database
localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost
fe80::1%lo0 localhostDOES NOT appear in my window.
I tried to paste it but I don't know how.
I followed the instructions of the website, but it doesn't save it when I do "control O"... as they say.I did download the correct version for my Mac.
I'm going out again now. I'll be back in the evening.Thanks so much!

@whale-av
I just wanted to thank you very much for the help.
It works!!!!
The materials you sent definitely helped to do it.
Also, I asked for help to a friend, I was saving wrongly the new terminal.Anyway, I truly appreciate it!

@jeszczetutaj That's good news. I hope your success helps others with the same problem!

First time in my life I had to do something like this to install an application.
I think it will probably be helpful for others too.
Thanks again!
