Putting mp3 files into a patch
Is it possible to put a mp3 file in a patch to be played?
I want to put multiple short clips and have PD randomly play them..
Receiving and decoding an MP3 stream?
Any ideas how to do something like mp3play~ but read an icecast stream?

I am actually learning howto patch a streaming console for collecting the data sources from my studio, stream them through icecast2, and soon relay Musical Live Events through wi-fi ....
Discover Ubuntu, Ardour, PureDyne recently but already love it and the spirit of open source too ...

Didgeridoo into PureData live at Boise Experimental Music Festival
Here's my performance using Didgeridoo into PureData (using fiddle~ into some synths) live at Boise Experimental Music Festival:

here's another one:
Parabolic Beat Slasher.
I'll try get some video of this running on monday afternoon, but it will be camera phone quality.
This is a project i'm doing for uni, you can find a not very descriptive progress blog i'm doing as part of the project here http://shinyrobot.wordpress.com
The idea has evolved a long way since it started.
The sample playback borrows from something hardoff mentioned at some point. and the bass is butchered from obiwannabe(i'm horrible at synthesis, especially bass)
So anyway the project itself is a big dish that you roll golfballs in.
A camera tracks the golfballs in PD, and sends that data around to do different things.
It scribbles up the spiral, and it was originally drawing waveforms which modulated against each other.
It made these nice bubbly metallic sounds.

a bit scratchier and more hollow sounding when it was actually used though.
but after a lecturer suggested i make it sound less like max, i joked about a beatslicer because its something i like doing.
so i did it.
stutters/random jumps/flange type super delay are all picked randomly after being triggered by x and y being equal.
i should might add more triggers, it depends on how i like the ratio when used with the real dish(im just testing on my webcam at home waving around for now)
the bass pitch is being controlled by x and y added together and multiplied by 3, ending up with a range of 0-6
I'm talking a lot.
I'll chuck up a video in a few days.
How do I decode an mp3 and cat it into an array?
I realize there are many externals out there such as readanysf~ which are ideally suited for playing alternate sound formats (ie. mp3, ogg, flac), with integrated looping controls etc..
But, do any externals exist capable of decoding the file and cat'ing the contents straight into an array?
Niceties of the externals' controls aside, it would be nice to be able to use the true power of PD to manipulate files without transcoding thousands of files if you get my drift.
A little band that plays in my computer

This patch might glitch (the demo mp3 does a little), since I kept adding more CPU-intensive stuff until my computer could barely handle it. Also, it probably only works in Pd-extended, as it uses [sort] and the reverb patch from the extras.
There's a lot of stuff in there that I find handy to reuse for other patches, so go ahead and dissect it if you like it. I might post some abstractions of the more interesting individual modules.
Thanks to obiwannabe, from whose tutorials I copied a lot of stuff, and hardoff, whose analog distortion patch is in here.
Loading a random mp3/ogg from a folder
If I want to load a random soundfile (mp3 or ogg) from a given folder what's the easiest way of doing this? Are there wildcards that can be used in the filename path, or will I need to catalog the contents of the folder into a list or array and select a random element from that?
Also, on a related note, if I have Lame codecs installed in UbuntuStudio will PD be able to read mp3 files?
Synthesis metal bars sound
HI,
i'm working on an installation based on this apllication made in java
i communique with pd via OSC
for each collision pd receive a bang with two parameters
height tube
position tube
i'm looking for synthesis metal bars sounds to transform this "thing" into a musical instrument
there is samples here

What kind of simple patch should i have to make for this goal?
au revoir
