Hi everyone,

I wanted to share Ricochet, an interactive sound and light installation I made using Pure Data. It’s currently showing at Sonica Festival in Scotland.

Eight algorithmic bouncing balls generate notes when they hit the ground, creating shifting rhythms and polyrhythms. In the installation, the patterns also control 24 incandescent bulbs. Visitors can change how the balls move through a tactile interface, shaping the sound and light together.

The project started as a small Pd experiment after my father died. I was inspired by the Yamaha Tenori-On. Over time it became an instrument for the Critter & Guitari Organelle, then grew into this installation. I’ve also released a version of the Pure Data patch for others to explore.

I’d love to hear what fellow Pd users think! Apologies in advance for how messy the patch is - lots of hangovers from previous versions that are hanging around waiting to be used.

Hello all,

Looking for some help with the comport object, it has suddenly stopped working.

When I try to create the object I get the error:

comport
... couldn't create
comport: can't load abstraction within itself

I have updated PD, deleted comport within the externals, then reinstalled it using help>find externals within PD and still get the same error - any ideas? I have also tried using "declare" to no effect.

When I open the "comport-help.pd", "comport-meta.pd" and "comport-stress-test" within the externals>comport folder all comport objects are greyed out... Trying to get PD to talk with Arduino... Thanks!

Hello all, quick question regarding lists.. have had a good search through zl objects / tutorials but cant see anything suitable. any help greatly appreciated!

I have a list of 8 values, lets say it is:

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

I would like to offset it, so if I send 2 it would read

2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1

or if a 3:

3 4 5 6 7 8 1 2

etc

what is the easiest way to achieve this?
