What Windows folder structure do i need to use for 'open [.wav]' to link to 'readsf~'? Does the soundfile need to be in Pd folder, or is a subfolder possible?
I keep getting message in main panel - dsp: 123.wav: no such file or directory'
Thanks

@McLovin' [readsf~] will need the path to the file........
so if it is in the same folder as the patch........... open 123.wav
if it is in a subfolder /audio............. open audio/123.wav
if it is somewhere else.............. open "the/whole/path/from/root/to/the/folder"/123.wav
David.
Thanks David. That/makes/sense/now.
Couple of other things I didnt realise - looks like I cant open file names with spaces (also makes sense). And looks like I can select some folders for Pd to search for in Preferences, to reduce need for subfolder backslash.
@McLovin' Yes, correct on both counts!
You will be patching like a pro quite soon I think!
It is good practice to use an underline score instead of a space in everything you do that has anything to do with Pure Data. There are ways around that, but it's easier just to "conform"... don't be tempted to fill the spaces with any other character (like a dash for example) because when you try to remember what you used on that occasion you will very quickly get lost!
Have you read this yet? It will help you in the long run to read and understand it all, but don't read chapter 2.9 yet or you will give up.............

I appreciate the vote of confidence, its the most daunting software I've ever used, but probably the most exciting.
Thanks for the link, will be sure to check that out.
At the moment, I'm working through these:
And just following the exercises in that manual to test myself.
@McLovin' It gets easier very quickly...........
That link is crucial.......... take a break at some point and try to understand it all.......
don't be put off by the title or the old-fashioned typeface.... it is very understandable and when you come back to your tutorials they will start to look "obvious"....
Pure Data is a "data flow" language so it is really very easy......... it is especially easy for English speakers as all of the objects contain words that immediately "mean something".
They are then strung together in a sort of....... if this happens do that........ or not? chain.......
David.
