I am pretty sure this is childishly simple. How does one save a file to another name without having to use savepanel?

So, if I have a temp.aif file that I want to use as a temporary .aif that I will save after making the audio file to overwrite another file?

instead of openpanel you can pass a message with the full path to the relevant object.

e.g.:

[open /path/to/file/temp.aif(

Yeah, see that is frustrating.

There is openpanel (Which I have to input a name to)

And then there is open [name]

But the same thing does not seem to work with the

save feature.

You can do savepanel.

But NOT

save [name] as a different name.

Which objects in particular are you using to open your audio files? You might want to try reading your audio files into an array using [soundfiler]. This provides an easy way to read and write audio files. You would do something like:

[read -resize /path/to/file.aif arrayL arrayR(
|
| [write -aif /path/to/newFile.aif arrayL arrayR(
|/
[soundfiler]

In this situation you would use [tabplay~] or [tabread4~] to playback audio and [tabwrite~] to record it.

Yeah, that is exactly what I am doing at this point. I just thought there might be a more "elegant" way to do a "save as" operation.

sorry i wasn't so clear, and i thought you were talking about [writesf~] still i might answer in a different direction to what you actually need. if you just want to change the name of an existing file, you might find a way using [sysgui] to send messages to your terminal, depending what operating system you're on.
