well, no reactions? so it is so lame?
i wonder what other people do with pd/gem but there isn't many people who actually do something and publish it here. except mr. pidipid
so don't be shy and put something here, i'm very curious...
yeah man, that is pretty nice!
Helps that your original image is pretty neat, i would like to know how that was created.
And yes, its a shame more GEM patch's don't get spoken of on here. I myself have used it for a number of multi media projects over the years. The development of gem however seems to have slowed to a halt as people have moved over to vvvv, jitter, or taken the plunge and delved into C++ and programing OpenGL straight rather than using a wrapper such as GEM.
Its a shame really cos for a beginner their are not many examples of interesting GEm patchs on the web, and its a great way to learn the basics of OGL rendering.
Well done for posting something that looks cool and is easy enough to follow

unfortunately the original image is not my work. i found it long ago somewhere on the net. but new version of my patch uses videofile as a texture and i have a lot of my own videos which also fits well. but i'm afraid gem is not so powerful as i thought. for example the method of texturing -- i can only set quality 0/1 and there is nothing else to set.
i'm also working with vvvv. it has perfect gui and interface but i didn't dive into it so far
oops deleted my comment by mistake--but yeah its a great patch
vvvv is good and when I switched to mac it was the only app I missed--still though on mac youve got quartz composer which is powerful
I wish there were some Gem tutorials...!
i've taken some screenshots from this upgraded patch. it can now handle video as a texture...
Hi,
nice images! People love screenshots (at least I do !
Videofiles? So you project videos on the cubes?
It's like the Homer patch in the GEM tutorials?
best

unfortunately my computer is not powerful enough to capture video to disk. my notebook hdd is very slow so i can't capture videofile. i'm working on it and i believe i can solve it.
there are practicaly 4 cubes with different center points and different size. just explore that patch and you understand...
hi !
the screen captures help to get an idea of what your patch is meant to do... and it reminds me sooooooo much of Servovalve's stuff (especially the 4th pic you've posted !)
anyway, i'll download and give it a try, it definitely looks interesting to me !
for my part, i'm working on creating my own customized video mixer with GEM for the moment. I've posted the patch in the topic about pixeltango as it's a follow-up to this thread, if you wanna have a look too. (Still quite basic at the moment, I'm trying to figure out the different controls I can use on the videos, and I hope to connect it to my midi controller soon..)

Hey tvprodukt,
I know this is an old topic, but I am just recently starting to experiment with GEM and I found this thread on google. I have been playing around with your originally posted cubes patch for the past week trying to implement it for video. How did you do it? I can get a single frame of the video to project onto the cubes but it wont play the whole clip. I really like the cubes patch though, it has proved to be super adaptable and I have learned a lot by tinkering with it, thanks!
Oops! Looks like something went wrong!
