Hi All,

I'm totally new to GEM. I was wondering about making a video where I layered a still image with an "old film reel effect". I know this can be done with other film editing packages - but I can't afford them. Would this be possible with GEM. And if so any pointers would be great!

I haven't really worked in GEM and don't know much. But here is an idea:
Check archive.org and there you will find MANY original and CC-licensed films back from the 40's and 30's. So you can make a loop from a cut blank scene and apply it on top of the image you want to have the effect (?)

Obviously, with an alpha channel instead of black (if it's possible).
More people using GEM will hopefully give you more technical details about how to achieve it of course...

I think blending the pictures together is the easiest way to achieve the effect. See the patch attached below.

Thanks for the patch. It says that clip.avi is corrupt. So I can't quite try it out (I know pix_multiply is fussy about the size of images).

In general I have not had much luck yet.

If anyone has a patch with pix_mix, or pix multiply, which is working it would be great to test out.

On another note. Can the opacity of an image be altered. I've tried altering the alpha with objects like colorRGB, but without any luck.

I think the patch is working, you just have to use two images with the same size.

About the opacity, have you tried with an [alpha] object on the GEM chain? then colourRGB should work.
