Hi all,

After about a year or so of inactivity in the wonderful world of PD, i recently found motivation to jump back on the digital horse (so to speak...).
But now when attempting to control the volume of a sine wave (going back to basics for troubleshooting purposes) with numberbox and a [*~] i get a crunchy/scratchy noise as i scroll the volume up/down. This also occurs using a [line] object to drive the number box.
The hardware i am using has remained the same since last i used PD, but i have updated to newer versions of PD.
Also, strangely, patches that i had previously created (that included similar functions), work perfectly, without the noise.

I have tried changing driver settings/switching between ASIO/MMIO, but to no avail.

Anyone feeling helpful?

use [line~] or [vline~] instead of line, to smooth out values. line only processes in 20 ms steps, this resulution is too low for smoothing. something like this should work:

In this case the [__\ means a numberbox which contains the frequency of the sinewave oscillator. Together with the [$1 20( it means that it creates a message to the [line~] object telling it to change its current value to the new value ($1) in 20 milliseconds.

20 ms is a little overkill, 4 should be good enough. For an even more sophisticated way of dealing with this you can use a low pass filter.

It's more expensive but it treats fast changes in volume rather than all changes. I tend to use the line~ approach though, the cpu usage of lop~ in comparison isn't worth it.
