Unfortunately about 3/4 years ago (when I didn't use pd) there was stuff like this going on all the time (BLip?), but it seems to have fizzled out. I think Andy (Obiwannabe) is just down the coast and we did discuss something of this nature a while back... until i became a Dad a year ago, so life got in the way (!)

but I'm definately into putting something on with folk i know round here, and getting the label i'm on involved somehow...THeres plenty of people using this kind of software in brighton, but its all just a bit disorganized.

Over the past few years I've enjoyed many good events organised by the Openlab group

The core guys and gals are based in the East end of London. There's been gigs, parties, workshops, livecoding, build fests... much geekery with open source and open knowledge flavours.

However, Brighton, Birmingham and Bristol all seem great places where a happening could occur.

If anyone organises an event related to Pd, Max, Arduino, homemade musical hard hacks or whatever - it would certainly be appropriate to announce here on the forum, whatever your location.

i'm coming to the UK in september/october. but my computer has a cracked logic board which i can't fix right now, so i don't know what i can do.

Ah sh*t that is a bummer. ISn't that a new Macbook (pro)? Ouch. Under warranty? If not, dont even think of getting some company to fix it - you might as buy a new laptop....Unless you feel confident in sourcing the part and getting the tork screwdrivers out (its actually not too hard)

Blo*dy Apple. I've had logic boards fail repeatedly. My multiple friends' Macbook hard drives have started making a loud ticking noise and just failed. I thought Apple were through all that

not pro, just a bottom of the line macbook. had it a few weeks over a year. no warranty. i'm looking into getting a mate to help me fix it. will still cost $500 for a new logic board though.

anyway, i fly to europe on saturday morning, but will still check this forum from time to time. and i reckon i'll make it down to brighton anyway, cos i have a couple of mates who live there.

a mate is lending me his old iBook, so should be ok now. definitely lets hook up in brighton somehow.

nestor: how far from boston are you? i'd be down to set up some pd gatherings, i tried to get one together about a year ago but i only had one response (i know a lot of people at berklee who all use max/msp, i've been trying to convert some of them for a while, with no such luck
edit: did you go to firefly this year? or do you know the vermin street/smgu/glitch crew guys?

I'm in Northampton. Don't really know anybody into this stuff, I'm Kind of a hermit when it comes to my experiments. Even my geekiest music friends get a blank stare when I start prattling on. It would be nice if there was somebody around who knew what I was talking about all the time.

Me too! My g-friend thinks i'm mad. I feel so alone.

At the risk of this thread deteriorating into a therapy session, I think something should be done.

By the way, my suggestion to the Britons is to have a Pd vs. Max event in Brighton with a mods vs. rockers theme. The only question is which one is which.

yeah tough choice, but pd should go with the mods i reckon, cos the pd community is so similar to the original .mod file swap tracker demo scene.

Ha! Max users have the obsession with their technology's visual style, but on the other hand, Pd is perhaps more modernistic because open source is sometimes "clean living under difficult circumstances"... luckily the circumstances get easier every day.
