Hi everybody !

I'm on PD since 3/4 hours working on a patch to generate loud beats, but yet I didn't get what I was expecting (I'm still a newbie on PD, so There must be pd'stuffs that I don't know)

So does anybody know a way or a patch made to generate and manipulate loud beats (without sampling existing ones ) please ?

By loud I mean punchy, I don't know really know how to mean it, but a classic electrobeat as you can heard in most of the 90's dance tracks (and now also I think)

then I would personally -

[overdrive~] <- do over do it
|
[compressor~] <- low threshold, high ratio, fast release
|
[(an eq of some description) ]

but really theres a bit more to it than that! Try doing this in a DAw with plugins first to get a feel for it i would

Thanks dude, I've found out a way to do some with [adsr] also and it sounds pretty good, so now with overdrive, compressor and adsr (and also some basses) i'm able to generate loud kicks ! Great

Hi! still working on my drum kick (or beat) I manage to have a nice one, but It isn't very powerful. I tried several way to increase its "boost" or volume but I only got more saturation (not really nice for a drum kick), for example, I tried with the boonier way : overdrive/compressor/ and an EQ ( FIR~ , a kind of a waveshapper ) but it saturate very quickly (I also tried with lop~, and it's don"t increase it)and many other way, but it wasn"t very convincing.
I think PD can provide more powerful kick cause I can make my windows shaking by generating some continuous basses, but I don't got it in a kick.
Does anybody know a way or abstraction that I can look at to learn more about kicks in pd ?

maybe you need to get the raw kick sound right. THere are a number of components like the initial hit or kick, usually a v.fast enveloped pitch and decay and slower decay for the 'body' of the drum

I'm still trying to increase attack, but I got some sounds problem, when I hit one kick, it's ok, but when I hit it repeatedly, some "clicks" sounds during the attack, I tried several way to shut them but it didn't works good (most of the time I loose also lot's of punch)
I saw that there is lot's of way to avoid clicks (and each depends of the cause of the "clicks" ) but i still didn't find the right way in my case.
Does anybody know a good way to avoid clicks from "high attack" ?

here is my patch if you wanna have a look at it
(the left side is the kick side, the right side is only basses, no need to use in this case) you'll find the patch a bit raw but I don't want to add additional fonctions till I didn't clean the basis sound ^^

1. you have a line for the bassdrum attack, that goes [0, 1 10(

so, if your previous bassdrum is still sounding, that line is going to make a sudden juump from yur current volume to 0. ..so you could try replacing it with just [1 10(

2. another option, although more finnicky, is to turn all sounds off for 5 milliseconds when a new drum is hit. - if you use this option, then the drum trigger should be delayed 5 milliseconds, so that the new drum is triggered while the volume is at zero.

I tried both of your method, Clicks are thinner now, but I can still hear them when I hit repeatedly kicks, so i tried your method 1) also on the other lines I got in my patch (to avoid line sudden jumps) but it didn't work.
I'm sorry cause I'm a newbie, so I'm really turning my head around with this problem but I don't know what to do or to try...

but anyway, If you (or anybody else of course ^^ ) have an idea to avoid those annoying clicks in this patch, please give me a hand

I modified my patch, so now you can test it, just press the bang on the top to set values, and then hit the kick'bang below the metro repeatedly (or you can also use the metro with a frequency between 200 and 700 ) and you'll hear those devilish clicks +_+

I'm so happy, in fact the Hardoff's second method works perfectly, I made a mistake while placing it in my patch, but now I placed it well and no more click ! ( really!! desapeared ! my beats sounds good )
