I was wondering if anyone else has this issue. I double click on the app, nothing happens. I tried re-installing, and installing previous versions as well (0.49 as well as 0.48.1).

I also tried to open from the command line and this is what I got:

open -a Pd-0.49-1
Unable to find application named 'Pd-0.49-1'

I was using PD without any problems before that, I cannot remember how long ago it was that I opened it before, but it cannot be more than one week or so. I can't remember either wether my mac updated after I opened PD for the last time and wether that can have anything to do with it.

Works fine with same config here (the proper way to launch it with command line seems to require the app extension).

if I type .app then I don't get any error messages, but nothing happens (pd still doesn't load)

I've just tried to download and install again and it works fine (macOS 10.14.4 also).

• Delete the preferences?
• Is it 32bits or 64bits?
• Gatekeeper approval?

How can I delete the preferences? I can't remember where the preference file is.
It's the 64 bit version.
And I approved it manually at startup (right click, open in order to authorise it)

~/Library/Preferences/org.puredata.pd.plist
~/Library/Preferences/org.puredata.pd.pd-gui.plist

Just put the files in the trash (of course your Pd preferences will be lost).

Found them and deleted them... still to no avail.
Every time I try to open PD I see its icon appear briefly at the right side of the dock, ca 1 second, and then disappears for good.

Looking also for something going on on the activity monitor, but no processes appear either...

I don't know what to do!

On MacOS it is the GUI that launch the Pd binary. It seems the GUI is launched but not the binary.

• Have you tweaked your firewall (or something that concern sockets) recently?
• Does the Pd binary crash (/Application/Utilities/Console.app ("Rapports utilisateur"))?

It might be something regarding the hosts... I was trying to install a hack to remote control my Organelle via OSCproxy (and didn't get it to work before I got to this issue).

Do you know in which folder I can find this?

That is the file path ; but you can access it only (AFAIK) with a terminal.

For instance typing the following command:

cat /private/etc/hosts

I get:

255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1             localhost

That should be the "default" config/file since i never (IIRC) hacked this.

Weird...

• Does the binary crash (can be silently) or is it never launched?
• Have you tried to launch the binary first, from a terminal (see below)?

@xavierbonfill Before you try any of the below you should try the solutions in the link I have posted at the bottom.....

If that doesn't work.....
Do you have "wish.app" on your system....... the tcl/tk app..... or have you removed it?
If it is there then something is blocking the port. When you first ran Pd maybe the OSX security system asked if you wanted to allow access for Pd to the local (private in OSX speak?) network and you denied it?
If there are firewall permission settings in OSX then maybe you can fix it there.
Pd and the wish.app talk over a "port" on the local network.

If none of the above, maybe the Pd allocated port is already in use....... because it was not closed.
Maybe Pd terminated badly and something held the port..
You should check whether wish or pd are still actually running.
If you never re-boot your computer you should try doing that.

I tried to follow the instructions on the link that you mentioned but it turns out I don't have any file (or folder) called org.puredata (or pd, or something like that) on my /user/library/Saved Application State folder... so when I type those commands in the terminal it says that there is no such file or directory.

Regarding wish.app... I never had it installed (to my knowledge at least)

@xavierbonfill The wish app should be a part of OSX.
Sorry, I am not using OSX, so I cannot check where the files should be.

I cannot think of anything else (other than what I have written above)....... except that it is strange that you do not have an org.puredata folder.
Maybe Pd did not install, having been blocked by the OSX security, or has been installed for another user or for the guest and you do not have permission to access it.

@whale-av after some search... is it possible that wish was present in earlier versions of mac osx and not anymore with the current os?
I tried to make an empty folder named org.puredata.savedState inside my user/library/Saved Application State folder.. but still not able to enter those commands successfully

I just managed to fix it!

Yesterday morning I needed to make a wifi network... (just to connect devices together, without any actual internet) and I couldn't find out how to do a network with a password so I followed this thread for advice:

it was the commands I entered to create this network what apparently led to trouble

sudo networksetup -createnetworkservice Loopback lo0
sudo networksetup -setmanual Loopback 172.20.42.42 255.255.255.255``````

deleting the network from my system preferences / network and restarting the computer fixed the issue.

Note that AFAIK you don't need Wish.app on your system since it is shipped inside the Pd package.

Note that on macOS you must use the Console to get error messages and crash reports.
