Hello Folks,

just an easy question (i'm new to pd): I like to create a simple note without midi-interface. This note should be played (with some pause between) in a loop.

Later i like to apply some variables to control the ADSR-shape and reverb etc. of the note and add a second note so it will sound roughly like a heartbeat.

For now, i stuck in producing just a single note with the osc~-object. I tried it with makenote but this doesn't work. Any advices or maybe a sample patch!?

@maxoox07 I would recommend.....
[metro] and [line~] and [*~] (that is "star" "tilde")

If you look in the "doc" folder of your Pd install you will see the "3.audio.examples" folder........ and inside there [A03.line.pd] which will get you started.......
Then use a slow [metro] to bang a suitable message to [line~]......
Use a [delay] to bang an "off" message like [0 100( after each "on" message like [1 100( sent to [line~] ...... so that the sound is audible for the "time" set in the [delay] object.
Then think of a way to make an "echo"......... for the second part of each "heartbeat".

Thats really good, but now i try to make the patch more simple by using the vline~-object. Unfortunately i have problems in combination with pack-object to output a list for the vline~-object. May you could have look at my pd-patch?!

EDIT: ok, vline~ could only read simple messages (like "1 500, 0 500")?! Something like "1 500, .8 500 200, 0 500" doesn't work. So i added an delay-object.

@maxoox07 You need to do some math with your controls, and the message to vline is not in the correct format........
Also, to avoid clicks it is better not to ramp in zero time.
Also you do not use f in the message..... just $1, $2 etc....... so........

@whale-av thanks, but the pack-vline~-combination looks like it's working sometimes and sometimes not - certainly it's my fault, but i dont know where. For example, have a look at the patch below.

@maxoox07 Yes..... error in the message to vline...... It needs to read...... Go to 1 in time ($2) and then go to 0 in time ($3) after time ($2) has elapsed........

@whale-av now i see! thanks a lot!! i was totally wrong about the 3rd paramter. One last question to be sure: If i have a message like 1 $2, 0.8 $3 $2, 0 $4 $5 I should choose $5 = $2 + $3, or? So the 3rd parameter is always an absolute (not relative to the values processed before) value!?

"absolute" is a good description....... I must remember that next time I try to explain [vline~]...
..... except that of course $5 >or= $2+$3 because you could leave the value at 0.8 for another say 2 seconds (sustain)..... and so $5=$2+$3+2000 would be the value you were looking for.
