Hello everyone:

My name is Stef and I'm new to Pure Data but not new to programming. I've installed the latest version of Pure Data available (0.47.1) and I'm running Windows 8.1.
The first problem that I ran into was not finding the object "counter", I looked in my startup paths and it's empty, I used deken to download Zexy, Gem and Cyclone and then proceeded to add their paths to my startup file, but PD doesn't like it and throws a consistency check error for all of them.

What am I doing wrong? Did I download the wrong version? (I've seen that most PD users use pd=extended, but that's outdated by now) What would be a proper PD setup using the latest version?

Try creating [cyclone/counter].

zexy and Gem must be also set in the Startup flags along with the Path...
I don't think this goes for cyclone though.

They don't have to be added to the startup flags. You can use [declare -stdlib Gem] and [declare -stdlib zexy] to load them.
