I'm still struggling a bit with my previous track (i need to generate some more material), so i started another one. Again all material is generated during 2 jams, 100% pd + a couple of free vst plugins. It's not 100% working yet (especially the final break), but here it is anyway.

I really like the flutey melodies, it has a kind of space/fantasy feel to it.

It's hard to make a judgement about glitch drum parts because they are such a new form and their placement is difficult, but I think they are too loud and overpowering in places. Maybe you shouldn't mix them the way you would mix dance music drums, or use a very strong limiter or something to tame them. Entirely a matter of taste though.

The flute melody is great though, and a nice square acid noise for the bass.

I'd like to know more about how you sequenced this one. Are you using much MIDI?

You're probably right about the mix, although i like the beats being very upfront. I guess i'm having difficulties in my room with some frequencies and with sound overall. Mixes i make together with my mate (for our ziggy electric project) sound really fine on his system but very dull on mine, and then i usually spice them up with a multiband compressor. So once i've finished the structure i'll take them over to his place and try to do another mix.

About the sequencing, there's no midi going on at all. I've got about 10 patches that all listen to a master clock (they can follow quarter notes, quintuplets or sextuplets) plus i can route their output to three logical channels which i record with the [readsf~] object. So i just pick a tempo in my master clock and start jamming away and everything will run nicely in sync. All melodies and bass lines however are just manually played unsequenced and put in a loopstation once i've got them right. I usually try to do a nice build-up and create some form of an ending. All those tracks are then imported in a well-known sequencer and the best bits end up in the song.
