Unable to add libraries/externals to pd 0.46.7
As the title says, unable to make any added libraries or externals recognized by Pd
I have done both manual install (downloading then adding to ~/library/Pd) and using the deken tcl installer.
In both cases, I had to manually create the ~/library/Pd folder (not sure if it is made upon bootup with OSX)
Am I missing anything obvious?

I already knew about "show user library" folder. I knew I had to create for the global library, but wasn't sure if the ~/library/Pd folder should be created upon startup. I made one myself ...
I had initially uploaded a 64-bit version of 0.46.7.
Just tried 0.47 - both 32 and 64 bit - and same issues.
Upon going to help - browser... I see all of the libraries added, yet trying to make a [gemhead] object creates an error

That works! But I'd really, really hate to use Pd like that 
Anything I can do from here, or ...?
EDIT: When I add both the Gem folder to preferences -> path & preferences -> startup, gemhead will be an object at creation. Only doing one or the other will do nothing. However, a ton of errors pop up into the main Pd window when I create [gemhead]. When I try to open [gemwin] with a [create, 1( message box it does nothing.
As much as I don't want to use Pd-extended since its so messy, it seems preferable to all of this :/
you can add the gem folder to your search path
as alexandros suggests in the other thread
in the pd menu select preferences/path/to_gem_folder
the logic behind using both [libname/object_abstraction] is that some libraries have objects that have the same name. (not in this case)
but it helps to clarify.

if pdextended works use it.
to get gem to work with vanilla
what i did was go here to download a version of pdextended (i think the one i used was 0.43.4_intel)
(you might have to try a few to see which one works best for your system)
ctrl click on the icon to show package contents
go to the extra/ folder and copy any gem folder / files and move them to your copy of pd or pd folder
as other people have mentioned. (you could try the same with other folders/libraries too)
I'd really prefer to have the deken plugin to work. I'm just confused why there are so many errors, since its both a clean install of OSX and Pd. It doesn't seem like I'm missing any settings ... Even when I get objects to create after selecting both the 'select' path and 'startup' path, they don't work. For instance, I can get gemwin to create but not open when sending it a [create, 1( message.
BTW, I'm using GEM as an example since it seems more finnicky and CPU intensive than an audio-only library like cyclone,, but I'd prefer a well loaded Pd
There has been a lot of discussion about these issues (macs, externals and Gem) on the list recently. I haven't been following them closely so I can't direct you to the answers, but if you're still having difficulties it might be work digging in and taking a look for yourself.

heyok, I tried that and it is not working. I have recently updated to Yosemite 10.10.5 as well, so no clue why this is an issue... Especially with a clean OSX install.
Feeling so lost
Did you add the library to your path? I downloaded a package from deken earlier, added it to my path, and it worked great. I don't see how you've been having trouble, walk me through it? Oh, when you add something to pd's path, it doesn't recursively search through every subfolder. That is probably the hiccup since it works fine when you type in gem/gemhead. Just add gem to your path, then no more problems.
It wouldn't be too hard to crawl through every subfolder when loading externals/plugins, but they probably programmed it that way for a reason. I'll ask in the morning.
I can add GEM to the library path, and it will let me create a gemhead box, but it will not be functioning. Sending a [create, 1( message does nothing, I get errors loading GEM patches, and I can get other libraries to load their externals in an object box but none of them work either,
I am on 10.10.4 OSX Yosemite.
I just re-installed Pd extended and I am going to wait a few months before coming back to this. I wish it worked, but I have projects coming up and I want to work on them rather than dealing with issues.

I'm confused too, right there with ya. Maybe a 10.10.4 specific bug since el capitan is already out. huh.. well, goodluck with whatever you're up to though.

but a previous version of pdextended required xquartz https://www.xquartz.org/ or X11
i can’t remember which version it was and i believe that now it isn’t required or maybe is included
but i had to install it on osx 10.9.5

@gummi It seems to me that you might have 2 different "Gems" in your paths....... with ensuing confusion for Pd about where to find objects, and then to which Gem version they should be talking.... so that even though some are found and create, they will not work.......
