Is it possible to execute an .exe from within Puredata
Hi,
I'm fairly sure not. But my reason for asking is that I have written a small exe in vb.net that reads the presets (instruments) of a soundfont2 file and puts them in a text file that is compatible with [popup]. I can use this to read the huge SGM-V2.01.sf2 (250mb) soundfont and use puredata to send program change/control change/nrpn etc. to fluidsynth/soundfont player.
I am reluctant to upload the exe. but would be happy to upload the vb.net source as text if anyone is interested.
But running the program external to puredata is clunky to say the least.

Sf2 in pd-patch on Mac OSX
Hello, adrjork:
After searching not so few I only found one open source software to see how the file format is dealt with: swami project. It appears to use fluidsynth as playing engine. In the download section of the project site it is read that is already installable in Ubuntu and you can get the source code by donating some money. I can see it also as "installable" in my debian.
If you'd get the source code maybe you could read it and try some translation. It is far beyond my knowledge. Good luck!

Hi everyone,
I would like to use .sf2 files in pd. I heard it was possible through fluidsynth, but I'm having pbs making it work on my mac. Does anyone uses it ? or have another solution to load sf2 in pd ?
I just would like to build a simple Midi Synth using this format in a pd patch
Thx
Using GM sounds
is it called fluidsynth? i dunno
Stripnote (newbie)
Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and brand new with PD (I use Aeolus, AlsaModular, FluidSynth, Bristol). I have trouble dealing with makenote and stripnote. What I would like to do, is using PD to drive Fluidsynth/Timidity (having in mind a synth for kids project, mixing soundfonts and PD synthesis) for GM sounds.
I can do it for short sounds, but not with organ, and long noises as birds, sea, stream, helicopter... I whish to use a tgl or radio-button to send note-on and note-off messages, after few hours I can only start the sound and schedule a note-off with makenote. But what I wish is the ability to start/stop the sound, as the media/midi test tgl do. I think I have to deal with stripnote, but can't do it.
Thanks for your help, I apologize for my poor english.
