    @whale-av I'll dive into this.. Maybe I could figure something out. In the meantime I've installed pd on my Raspberry Pi (running Debian) and saw that it works as expected on it :) Problem is that I'm totally new to Linux and over there I cannot seem to load my iConnectivity MIDI interface to work with pd.. hehehe. Each OS and its own special qualities I guess.

    Thanks a lot!

    Thanks @whale-av,

    I've just tried as you've suggested and that didn't do much.. On keyup it's pretty much the same.

    It's as if both shifts and alts are identical from input perspective.

    I think it might be something to configure from an OS side?

    Cheers!

    Ah, It didn't even occur to me this could be an os thing.. Thanks a lot!

    Just for the record, I'm running Pd Vanilla 0.49.1 on OSX 10.13.6 and have also tried a generic USB qwerty keyboard (with same results)

    Any suggestion on how to make it work on my system would be highly appreciated!

    @ingox Thanks,

    [keyname] prints 'Shift_L' for both left and right Shift buttons.. (I've tried specifically the patch you've suggested here).

    Does it behaves differently on your machine?

    Hello,

    Totally new to Pd and the forum so apologies if this is either silly or been asked before (or both). I did search around and couldn't find an answer.

    I want to use a qwerty keyboard to trigger and modify parts on my patch.. I can manage to make most of it work but I would really like it if I could use say, the left Shift button on my keyboard to do one thing and the right Shift to do the opposite.. Is there any way for Pd to distinguish the two? (same goes for the other modifier keys which appear on both sides of a standard qwerty kb).

    I cam across this:
    https://keycode.info/

    Seems I could get some distinction with 'event.location' on the modifier keys so I thought maybe there's hope getting it to work on pd.

    Many thanks!
