This developed out of an installation I did recently - I liked the sounds I was getting so I modified it a little bit to make it more universal. Here's what it sounds like: .

Also, I came up with some dynamic effects-routing and parameter modulation methods that some might find interesting or useful.

I couldn't get the patch to upload, so here is a direct link: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/spa/1bow8ljn8jx1wwm/Soundwalk_2013_Solipse_share.zip

I have more patches here: http://joenewlin.net/pd-patches

Hope people find it interesting and/or useful.

I just discovered dynamic patching with GEM last night, and put together this little generative patch.

However, I would like to produce the circles in meandering paths rather than rows.

I know I would figure it out if I just struggled with it a little more but I wanted to see if anyone here has suggestions.

Also, what other things have people done with generative processes in GEM?

    I'm lost.

I want to learn to use PD on Ubuntu, but I'm having problems. PD runs very, very slow. It takes about 1 minute to open a new document, and I can't get any sound when I use the test module.

I've looked around on these forums as well as on the Ubuntu forums, but everything seems either irrelevant to my situation, or possibly relevant but over my head.

I could give up and stick with Windows, but I really want to give Ubuntu a chance.

    Please help!

Try distortion, long delays with lots of feedback, filter/EQ to separate different sounds, fade between different sounds slowly (let [line~] do the work for you), reverb on the whole thing. Drone. Done.

Thanks! What exactly are you curious about? Music? Visuals? How they interact?

Yeah, I thought this was a recently-started thread since there was recent activity on it. Anyway, still great patches, still use them all the time. Thanks again.

Hardoff, I use your patches all the time and am pretty excited to see there's an update. Thanks!

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. It sounds like your CPU or maybe graphics card is grinding to a halt with so many iterations. Try editing the "2500" message and replacing it with a smaller number. Maybe try 100 to start with and if that works, go up from there.

Great work. Can you summarize your stutter technique (objects used, etc.)?

I made a very minor adaptation to make it a noise machine. But after I added variables ($0-array) and resized the array, GEM seemed to stop evolving. How did I kill it?

Actually, I think you want to use the sssad version from the svn repository rather than the one bundled with pd-extended: http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2008-12/066703.html.

Saving presets for a single abstraction in your patch, rather than all sssad-enabled abstractions at once, takes a little work, but it can be done (http://lists.puredata.info/pipermail/pd-list/2008-12/066692.html).

I've been able to get low-enough latency with Windows XP (3 ms, I think) using an Edirol FA-66 soundcard with a firewire interface. I think I also had to set PD's priority to realtime using taskmgr.exe.

The pixel art is nice, but I find myself opening the pd-dynamic subpatch over and over again.
