I didnt follow all the discussions here so far, but why not use readsf~ and writesf~ instead of tabread~?
With them u have no clicks and stuff..
If u just wnat to loop soundfiles and send them throght effects etc. Thats the best way I think..

OSX 10.3, build in soundcard, Pd version 0.37.0, no externals
and I like it.
