Noob question here. Does the DAC object represent the soundcard? Or is it an actual piece of software that then sends the processed data to the soundcard?
Hope that question is worded well enough.

Hi there,
to have sound come out you have to have your signal routed to a DAC object. And to start sound processing just hit cmd + / to start (on mac) and cmd +. to stop.
Keep in mind you have to have something to play, like a cycle~ or play~
also you need to have the signal amplified. (use a *~ object to do this)
also, if you are using a cycle~ object or something of the like, you need to have it in an audible range, say 500hz or above for you to hear it.
the tutorials on here are fine but i recomend the documentation for Max/MSP. for getting started on PD you will have no problem working from this material.
