hi guys, as you can see from my previous message i am pretty new to this program so pls excuse my basic questions. the way i am going about learning is by copying and pasting examples from the help files to a blank new 'project'. this seems to work some of the time but sometimes it doesn't eg. when i try and copy an object that has a number of layers or contains another set of objects. this happens when i try and copy an output object from the help files, not all of the output copies and it doesnt work. if anyone could help me out with this or let me know howw to copy examples that have a number of 'layers' then i would be really grateful.
thanks in advance for any help.
    cheers

hi guys, i am very interested in pd. i have been writing and producing music on computers for 8 years and have never come across an appplication like this. the possibilities of pd seem huge and exciting.

my problem is that i have no experience of programming whatsoever, i do not understand binary or boolean. i spent a couple of hours messing about with pd the other night, just with the examples in the help files, seeing what it can do to sound and it is very exciting.

what i would like to find out is roughly how long it would take me to learn pd and also some further indications of the application of the software in music production; what are the coolest things you've done with it?
it seems like there is a lot of maths involved, that i have never had to think about before, it is not as simple as lfo's and adsr envelopes, these themselves havve to be made from maths that i dont understand at the moment.

anyway, how long did it take you guys to learn pd, and what are the cooolest things it can do?

    any advice much appreciated

    cheers

wow, thanks hardoff. i have just saved the ouput patch as you said in the same folder as my project and put an object box with output and copied the example to my new project and i have the a major scale. this is a big step for mee understanding how subpatches work. as far as i can gather you can save a subpatch such as an adsr or filter or something in thr project folder then just put it's name in an object box and there it is!
thanks for the advice, i am hoping that one day i will laugh about my simple mistakes!

hardoff, thanks for your advice. it has encouraged me to continue trying to figure pd out. i did enjoy some of your music from the output forum, i think someone compared it to an old pinballl machine, i thought the sounds were pretty amazing.
    thanks again

gloun, that sounds amazing, would you tell us what samples were used in makaing that piece of music? (or was it all synthesized) i want to try and get an idea of what pd can do,

and also, how long did it take you to learn to do this, i am thinking about learning but it seems like a big task.

i'd really appreciate your thoughts on this.
    cheers
