bit of fun

I always liked the atmospheric sound when they landed on an alien planet so i recreated it...

(This was actually an exercise in creating a bank of resonators, akin to SuperCollider's Klank ugen, but I'm not sure - is the Q of the bp filters the ring decay and how do I quantify the value into something meaningful?)

Hooray! That's the "transporter" sound. Very nice and inspiratiional, thanks for sharing. I've been told that it's variously a cymbal, resonating pipes or an Ondes Martinet (a weird instrument that scrapes strings) but there's never been a "Sound design of Trek" on Sven Carlssons site ( I highly recommend this btw http://filmsound.org/ ), so I don't know for sure.

Seems to make a good jet turbine with some other settings too.

Anyway, great 60s sci-fi ambience dude! spot on.

(edit - btw... you may want a DC trap after those allpass filters, try [hip~ 1] in there)

I luv all that nostalgia. In fact i'm aiming to emulate those circuits & techniques that the Barrons used back in the 50s on Forbidden Planet. Their use of overdubbing tape and using ring mod is fab. I find their work nothing short of inspiring! Pls feel free to post some classic 50s/60s if feel inclined to do so. I'd luv to hear what else can be done.

i just fed your patch to the elves that live inside of my pd folder and they loved playing with it. in turn they did a little dance and re-arranged all the objects on the canvas to say 'thanks for beaming us up!'
