I am using vst~ module in order to generate audio from MIDI files with a VSTi plug-in. I have noticed some missing notes in the audio: when simultaneously sending several "note" messages, it seems that only the last one is taken into account and generated. I must add a delay between simultaneous notes, say 1.5ms, in order to have them played (which is not convenient). It seems to be independant from the VSTi plug-in since I have the same error with various plug-ins and no error when using Cubase.
Do you know what happens and whether there is a solution?

An example file is attached, which used a free VSTi (MrTramp.dll, http://www.soundfonts.it/?a=read&b=20).

I used vst~ in the past and it worked well
but now in PD 0.39 extended RC1 (win) I got

tried C:\\Programmi\\pd0392_ext4\\extra\\vst~.dll and succeeded
C:\\Programmi\\pd0392_ext4\\extra\\vst~.dll: couldn't load

so I cannot test it. Anyone else experiencing problems with vst~
in windows?

BTW: I heard the demos of MrTramp in the website, it's a cool Vsti!!!

I am going on looking for a solution for my issue...

I have experienced a similar "vst~.dll: can't load" error as you. In my case, it happened when the current repertory did not contain the vst plugin (not library). In other words, if the plugin, e.g. MrTramp.dll, is in the same repertory as my pd file test_vst.pd, I have no error when double clicking on test_vst.pd to open it, whereas when I first launch PD.exe, and then open test_vst.pd from the File Menu, the error raises.

I am not sure that will help you since you must be much more skilled than me in PD...

I'll try your hint this evening. BTW: are you using the
extended distribution of PD or Miller's Vanilla?

Ok, now I got the picture.

But before running your patch I needed to install the plain version of PD,
vst~ still doesn't work for me on extended.
Maybe I'll post to main list about this problem (I think it's related to
pthread.dll error that I got when I always start pd extended on win)

I think your is the general problem: how to make the vst to play a
chord if the only message allowed is "note" (and it seems that the union
of two note messages together do not work)?

My answer is : I don't know . I'd ask to Thomas Grill (http://www.parasitaere-kapazitaeten.net/~thomas/)
or better, post a message on the main PD list. Just let us know..

Another solution could be to use Midi Yoke to pass midi messages from
PD to a VST host and see there if it's ok..

I am using Pd version 0.38.4-extended-RC8. Should I try Vanilla?

I have already sent a message to Thomas Grill, but he may be off or too busy...

I will test MIDI Yoke, it may solve my problem (finding an automatized way to generate a large number of MIDI files into audio files via VSTi plugins).

Hi Valentin,

Pd version 0.38.4-extended-RC8 is veeeery old (you may encounter difficulties
with graph-on-parent features etc. solved in 0.39 or also 0.40)
The problem I see in using extended 0.39 for Win is that it prevents,
(at least to me) using vst~, then you should go to vanilla version.
But probably things don't change (I tried you patch on 0.40 vanilla
and had the same results as you).

Have you searched the PD mailing list archives about this problem?

i know this is a really late reply but i just joined.

i've been using vst~ for a number of years and recently i tried to do the same as you and found the same problem.

i made an abstraction to get around it using a similar method to your delay idea too.

this allows 8 note polyphony and no more than 11 ms timing lag (to me unnoticable)
