Hi Pure Data People,

I'm trying to compose a patch that randomly selects one of 6 togs.

Sounds easy enough, but I'm having a problem as I only want certain togs to be available to be selected at any one time.

Has anyone constructed something similar to this in the past?

I feel like there should be an object out there that does this, but I can't seem to find the right one.

just to simplify what I'm trying to say...

I want to be able to choose a random number between 1 and 6 but exclude certain numbers.

with [random] and [select] I think you can arrive to what you want.
think of [float ] to store a number, and recall it after with a bang

What about a program loop which will run again when output is certain (unwanted) number?

Or you can make a list of the toggles you want and have [random] select from the list.

Here you go! I utilized this concept a while back in a patch I made for selecting random pitches from a user-defined list. I just altered it a bit to meet the needs you stated, as long as I understand correctly.

hey JP1288 that's pretty much exactly what I wanted! Cheers! Took me a little while to get my head round but I've learnt a lot from doing so! The only problem I have now is that I want to make it so that the same number can't be selected twice in a row, so I've tried changing the "random" to "shuffle" however it still seems to select the same number twice no matte what I do. This might actually be one for a different thread, but I'll share a small pd file here anyway just to show you, in case you've also encountered this problem before.
