Hi all,

I tried building version 0.46-5 of pure data vanilla on kxstudio 14.04 and I came across a problem that during the running of the "./configure --enable-jack" command. The problem appears to be related to "portaudio."

Prior to this I ran "./autogen.sh". I'd appreciate any assistance in getting this to work.

@mouser Hi,

Could you paste all the output? I compiled this version yesterday without any issue (on a raspberri pi). Try also to ./configure --enable-jack --disable-portaudio

Thanks very much for responding. I tried to rebuild disabling portaudio and I have the same problem. Here is a full listing of the output from the ./configure command.

@mouser Hum weird... just tried on ubuntu kxstudio (but 12.04) and it's working. Do you have the jack-development package installed?

I have libjack-dev installed but not libjack-jackd2-dev installed. I was concerned about messing up Jack configuration on kxstudio. The libjack-jackd2-dev removes the old jack1 packages and reinstalls the new version. I'm a bit worried that it will mess with my Jack setup on the kxstudio. I like the integration with Cadence and I'd like not to mess this up.

Does your kxstudio system use jack2? If so, does it work with Cadence?

I get the same problem with 0.46-6 on Mac OS X 10.6 (regardless of branch used).

Jack1/Jack2 should make no difference to a Pd Vanilla install. I've compiled recent versions for AVLinux (Jack1 standard) Ubuntu Studio (Jack2 standard) and the latest KXStudio (Jack1 standard). Always works.

As far as I know the only version of Pd that has a problem with this is the pre-compiled Ubuntu .deb for the L2ork distro as this has Jack2 dependencies. Incidentally -- and to address your other J1/J2 concerns -- I had to perform the swap before installing that .deb in KX, and I was able to swap it back and forth without any obvious ill effects on my system (though I probably can't do that as long as the .deb is installed, obviously). If you use synaptic when you perform the swap you will notice that the J1 config is retained in the "not installed residual config" section. As long as you don't delete that config you should be OK to switch back -- but as I said, you shouldn't have to do any of that with Vanilla.

Maybe it's a file corruption issue. Try grabbing the 0.46-6 source from Miller's site (unless for some reason you have to have 0.46-5) and see what happens with that.

BTW all of the above applies to linux, haven't tried compiling on the Mac since I just grab Miller's .dmg file for that.

Edit: Oops, just noticed how old this thread is.

It's my fault. I resurrected that old thread because i get the same error. But in my case i guess JACK is not the problem since i don't use it for now.
