You might find this useful if you don't want to lose the formatting of your numbers in a Pd comment.

There are already some ways of doing it, but I think that middle dot deserves an opportunity. What do you think?

Just a quick idea - won't be better to use "No-Break Space" (visually - no dot after number)? Unicode code is U+00A0 (on windows type Alt + 0160).

That's a clever idea! It solves lots of situations.

The only problem with that is...well...it's non-breaking. Imagine a number at the end of a sentence, then a no-break space, and then the first word of the following sentence....all of that becomes a non-breakable unit!

At first glance, your idea is great for numbers at the end of a comment, for numerical comments that are very short, for comments consisting of just one number, and for lists of numbers.

I think I'll be applying your idea in lots of situations, maybe even more than middle dot! Thank you, @xbarbie

I edited the title of the thread to include the non-breaking space, and added an extra tag.

The only problem with that is...well...it's non-breaking...

OK, then the en-space (U+2002, decimal 8194) can be used instead, but it's harder to type (in Windows, one setting in the registry should be changed, to allow hex input with numpad).

Or the easiest solution I found: add a plain space after the non-breaking one, this will allow the line break.

Nice try! But the en-space doesn't do the trick, it's still a non-breaking thing. Let me show you, (for you or for somebody else reading thread).

Put the following (in a Pd comment):

Ineed a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a a 0.000001. Then

If you add the missing space between I and need, the whole [0.000001+non-breaking space+Then] goes down...and we don't want that. Ideally, we only Then should go down.

Yes, I tried that as soon as you tought me about the non-breaking space. And it works well in most situations. And you can type it easily, and so on. That's a nice solution.

Now, watch this. When we add some tag to a GUI object, we have to deal with underscores. But, now, I can use the non-breaking space, or the en-space, and...the underscores are gone. I guess we owe you some money!

By the way, I also tested it with the three fonts available in the Properties dialog, not only with DejaVu Sans Mono, in it works like a charm for all three fonts.
