I've been combing through the forums and the m_pd.h file, and don't see any easy way to get the subpatch ID from an external. (aka the $0)

Is there some method to get the identifier from within an external, or will i just have to hook a $0 float box up to an inlet of my external if i want to access the id?

the function you're looking for is canvas_getdollarzero() in g_canvas.c. Maybe copy and paste it and include g_canvas.h? or just declare it and link against pd? that seems less stable though, not that anything using g_canvas.h would be guaranteed to stay the same across versions anyway

looks like you can use canvas_realizedollar in g_canvas.h too
