Hello!

I'm a total Pd beginner (well, I spent a couple of years using Max/MSP, so I have an idea of the Pd basics) and I'm trying to figure out how to change Pd's language settings from German to English.

Thing is, I'm working on a German computer, and Pd (very sensibly) has installed itself with all of the dropdown menu choices according to the OS language settings: German. I speak the language, but it's still really confusing/annoying to have to spend five minutes figuring out where a particular command is.

I've been seaching, but I can't seem to find a general 'Settings' window where I can change languages, or anything else, for that matter. I know it has to be there somewhere, and assume that the name given to it in German is simply not what I'm expecting it to be.

Any ideas?

Just reinstall it and choose german.

Yeah, I've tried that a couple of times, but that choice is just for what language the installation interface should be in, not the program itself.

It's ok, I can deal with it.

I have one machine with a german instalation and one with an english version. No problem. Hm, maybe you need clean up your registry befor installing an english version.

Yeah, Windows. But I was using Macs for a really long time, so it's been a while since I last did any digging in a Windows system.

Could it simply be that I downloaded the wrong installer?
I do things like that sometimes.

Go to system preferences -> pd and delete the 'po' folder. That's where all the additional languages are. Then Pd will start up in English (if I understood correctly, you wanna have it in English...)

For anyone who needs to do this later:

The actual location was "program files -> pd -> po".

In this folder you will see a ton of files with names like "af.msg" "it.msg" &tc.

These (I assume) are the language settings for the pd GUI (dropdown menus, etc), which pd automatically loads according to the language settings of the host computer.

If you want pd to revert to the default language (in this case english) you don't need to delete anything, just change the name of the file so that pd can't find it.

I renamed de.msg ("de" is the short-form for Deutsch, which is the German word for "German") to x_de.msg.

The reason for renaming instead of deleting is that once I get the hang of how pd actually works I plan to switch the language back to German. If I had deleted the de.msg file, I would later need to re-install the whole program again, just to get one tiny little file.
