Excuse a newbie.

I am new to GEM and can't find the answer to my question. I have searched the forum with no luck.

I would like to align 4 different videos (short loops) in one GEM window. I want the movies to be like 4 small squares with space inbetween. One projector should then be able to project the 4 small-sized videos at the same time.

Further - I would like to be able choose from 4 different loops for each one of the square by using the output bang of the pix_film object.

Like a pattern-based sequencer for video loops.

Is it possible to have more than one movie canvas, square, in one GEM window?
If so, is it possible to positioning these squares?

I hope this is all clear, or maybe it simply can not be done.

By using 4 gemhead objects and by positioning the pix_texture object with translateXYZ it can be done.

what you are asking is really easy to do but i would suggest to get a basic understanding of how gem works before going on with your project.

you can learn a lot by looking at the gem help section inside pd:
Help -> Help browser -> Gem/ -> Examples/ -> 01.basic/
(remember that if you right click an object you can open the help file)

there are also some good online resources with basic gem lessons, like this one:

coming back to the point, all you have to do is:
1. use the [translateXYZ] object to move your "canvas" around
2. resize your [square] in order to make four of them fit in a single gem window (coordinates go from -4 to 4 in both axis)
3. copy and paste to get multiple "canvas" (you'll need to fine tune the translation)

you are right about my gem skills. the reason i was tring to find a shortcut is that this is really a very small project.

-just plain playback of 4 videos and it became simple when i realised that it is possible to just add gemheads for additional video-rendering-chains.

then i found translateXYZ to positioning the movies in the gem window.

i got i yesterday by looking at mandril boxes.
