I am looking for cheap and quick hardware input for Puredata. I am using Linux Ubuntu.

Well, I already tested with success, one tablet, joystick, keyboard, midi in, mouse..

But I am looking a way to do some electronics to work in Puredata. Anyone knows if I can use parallel port in Puredata?? Parallel port would give 8 digital inputs and 8 digital outputs.

Well, I am searching about midi protocol and It's trivial to implement on a controller as an ATMEL with GCC-AVR however, MIDI to USB devices are expensive

Well, also I want to do a turntable to control Puredata and I am looking devices, potentiometers, electronic rotors , etc.. I apreciate any link with info - thank you.

I will not use Arduino because Arduino uses a not DIP IC for USB and there is the need of install other software for work with them

I will construct that USB sensor interface, witch permits to construct a custom USB HID, for exemple a joystick, with n digital inputs and n analog inputs - It's great because PD works great with usb joysticks!!

That USB HID joystick can be made with just one IC, the ATMEL ATmega - very cheap and all software tools are Open Source - GCC-AVR and AVR-LIBC - and works great on Linux Ubuntu - also the documentation from autor, It's great, great work!!

Not quite so interested on the input side of things, pitch/timbral analysis can make novel and worthy interfaces of existing instruments imho.

I don't know anything about what's possible with PD, but I know people who have had a lot of fun using DDR pads and wii controllers with MAX.

If I may derail slightly, what are you using for MIDI input / how did you set it up? I'm having much trouble getting input from my keyboard on a fresh install of ubuntu

I respect the Wii stuff people have been doing with Max, it looks great and possibly useful gesturally, it just seems a bit lame/impenetrable performance-wise imho.
