this has been asked before about the adc~ object not working in linux or my sound in dose not work
or i am missing packages?

I'm glad to hear it

I had some difficulty, at first:-

1. I use alsa, as 'jack' doesn't work on capture for my card ( Aureal Vortex au8830 ),

2. capture is 'hidden' in the default alsa mixer and you need to hit F4 to see it

3. What are you trying to capture?

Mic. or what's playing on cd or another app, which means 'hitting space bar' on cd or mix etc, and cranking up the capture volume
