Hi everyone,

I am relatively new to PD. One of my interests in the program is its potential (as I see it) for running perceptual psychology experiments. Does anyone know of work that have been done in this area using PD and patches that have been written for this purpose?

"Music Cognition and Computerized Sound" its an introductory book to psychoacoustcs and cognition... its not written for pd but there are a lot of experiments that i think could be recreated easily.

in fact the book comes with an index of suggested experiments based on the information in the book... like i said its introductory so maybe the experiments are not so interesting for someone who is actually a professional on the subject. i dont know your level of studies on psychoacoustics or cognition but for me it was great.

Welcome to the forum and puredata, too. What sort of perceptual psychology experiment do you have in mind?

I thinking of using PD/GEM to generate stimuli for an experiment which examines the neural correlates of cross-modal match/mismatch (e.g., when what you see does not correspond to what you see).

I also wonder if PD could be used to analyse imaging data in real-time and trigger stimuli dynamically (so that stimuli presented directly depends on incoming behavioural and/or imaging information).

Absolutely. There is a slew of researchers at SARC in Belfast (UK) working with music cognition projects, generally with Pd, Max, Supercollider etc.

Diana Deutsch (UCSD) had some programmers build patches for some of her experiments in Pd for tone based recognition experiments.
