Chris McCormick has done a wonderfull android app, it enable you to run your pd patches on your android smartphone and play with them anywhere, provided that you keep it vanilla.

1- Go there : http://droidparty.net/
and download the apk on your PC

2- Download the attached zip, (it's a tested and working patch.) unzip it on you computer.

3- Search File Expert on the android market and install it (https://market.android.com/details?idxcxin.filexpert)

4- Once file expert is installed, fire it up, and click on Share (in the bottom line) -> choose "enable web sharing" (this will share your sdcard localy). A message appears and gives you info such as an adress, a username and a password (remember it, or keep it displayed onto your phone)

5- On your pc, launch your preferred browser enter the adress, it will prompt you for usename and password.

6- Double click on the big icon, and you have access to your SDcard.

7- Create a folder of you choice (right click -> New Dir), enter it and upload the apk (right click ->upload). Once the upload finished, just click the uploaded file it will install on its own.

8- Go back to the root folder of the SDcard, create a new folder of you choice to put your patches (say "Pure-Data"), enter it. Create a new folder called XY-Pad, and upload all the files from the zip in this folder. "droidparty_main.pd" is the main patch you can have a look at it on your PC first.

9- Close File Expert on your phone by pressing back several times, and launch PdDroidParty it will find your patches on its own.

10- Have Fun !

note : I choose to use an app to share you sd card wia wifi (because it's faster than pluging and mounting your phone each time you want to test something), but you can of course use USB cable to do all the transfers beetween phone and computer. But you'll need a file browser anyway to install the transfered apk

edit : you need to authorize non-market apps to be installed. Just go in Parameters -> Application and check the first box (something like "authorize non-market application")

yep. strange indeed...

i've attached a patch that highlights the inconsistencies.

when you pass a number stream through a [float] object, it seems to solve the problem of number boxes not responding to the input. (on my phone at least - galaxy s2). this is true for both types of number boxes.

i also don't experience the freezing issues you mentioned - although i haven't had the patch running for more than about a minute.

other things that i've noticed:

• message-changing canvas labels don't seem to work
• canvas colours are inconsistent between pc and android
• number box font size doesn't seem to be functional on android

The things I wan't to try ..... load any sample from my phone in to a table? .....and open pd pages?.......see if I can run pd net? (the chat room)

I am having a problem with object sizes of every thing . When i have it at the right size them I add a few things it just gets smaller when i run it

1- to load any sample from the sd card you'll need an external, [readanysf~] I don't really know how it works with PdDroidParty.

2- what do you mean by open pd pages ? something like this ?

it will not work at the moment, but dealing with multiple pages for GUI may be an interesting developpement.

3- I don't know about pd net.

4- for the object sizes, they are re-scaled to you phone screen size automatically. that's why it gets smaller when you add stuff.

I don't mean to interrupt, but i have a question : has anyone successfully managed to get Chris' [loadsave] abstraction to work on her phone? This doesn't work on my girlfriend's (htc magic running android 2.2).
I have tried getting in touch with Chris recently but he hasn't replied yet.

Incidentally, I have a patch for measuring your device's latency that works (sort of) on my girlfriend's phone. I can post it if you think you could need it. It's based on Miller's patch in the Stuff folder.

@pamelapopo - it seems to work for me. can you explain the problem more?

i got it to work by moving the slider to one value (a), then pressing save to save value (a) in a file. then move the slider to another value (b), press load and select the file you just created. after loading the file, the slider is set back to the saved value (a).

Are you talking about Chris' [loadsave] abstraction, that opens the Open or Save dialog in Pd running on a PC?
I need to use the dialog (don't know if it was intended to work this way though) in order to choose a set of files to load (I'm building a multitrack recording patch for the phone).

hmmm... i was just looking at the loadsave test patch. haven't really looked at the abstraction behind it yet... one obvious stumbling point could be forgetting to include the creation argument in the [loadsave] object...?

probably best if you attach your patch for testing.

Ok, so here's my patch. It works as a two-track recorder, and the open bang is supposed to open the save panel. It works fine on my PC, but it doesn't on my girlfriend's HTC.
Could you test it on your phone?

I'm at the point where I have my patch working the way I want via droidparty, but I'm stuck creating a standalone app. All due to me being a total noob, no doubt ;^) I've installed Bazaar and have managed the first step (clone the source code). I'm stuck at the second step "Convert the app name to whatever you like". How exactly do I do this `./convert-app-name mysynth "My Synthesizer"`. Is it a Bazaar command? Bazaar doesn't seem to recognize it as such. I'm assuming `./pack-patch` will work along similar lines. Any help would be much appreciated!

those two are scripts within the PdDroidparty folder.

so once you cloned it you enter the folder and type those commands.
