Hi guys,

sorry for not keeping up appearances in the forum lately. I have been extremely busy.

I have taken extremely well to xubuntu on the eeepc.

Synaptic Package Manager always showed Puredata, pd-zexy and Gem packages, but installing them didn't seem to load in any of the externals, and PD didn't have the GUI niceities of extended. - I had pd vanilla.

So I removed it and added

deb http://apt.puredata.info/releases jaunty main

to my list of sources, but synaptic package manager still didn't care to offer pd-extended for download.

So I used the command

sudo apt-get install pd-extended

and it all installed, lovely.

But synaptic is unaware of this package, and I really wanted to keep a clean system where everything goes through synaptic.

Have I missed something, or was pd-extended never built to deal with synaptic. I thought apt-get and synaptic was one and the same?

This certainly seems to be he case in Deban as well, as I had to download Pd-extended and "introduce" it to synaptic as vanilla seems to be all you can get directly. Not sure why Pd-extended isn't part of the main repositories/distros.

Good work on getting eeeXubntu loaded on the Eee PC. Reasonably easy to do? Thinking about doing that myself.

yeah. it's really sweet actually. Not as zippity-uppity as other light-weight distros, such as pure:dyne. but it's usability and completeness really does it for me. it even comes with eee-specific overclocking software and compiz-fusion. once loaded onto a usb there'll be an installer on the desktop which will do a proper install onto your hard drive.

some things though:
Go here, http://ftp.riken.jp/Linux/simosnet-livecd/EeePC/ and get the 9.04 version. the official status of eeexubuntu still seems to be 7.10!

(note, I just saw there is a distro there called eeelxubuntu which is about a third smaller in size. I wonder if l stands for light, and if so, damn... I've spent many hours already trying to cut down this version I have). Maybe you could download that one and tell me what it's like?

to get the iso onto a usb stick just use http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net - no problems there.

back to the question, however...

note again, eeelxubuntu is xubuntu based on th lightweight xfce desktop. but it is all in japanese

Sorry to hijack your thread again Arif, but do you happen to know what the correct input device setting to use within QjackCtl running on the eee pc in order to use the microphone socket as the input source?

I want to feed pd-extended with a plug-in mic signal....

that's okay, and sorry for my late reply. if you make sure (in the Connect window) that the system is hooked into pd, and that the software gain for the input is up (use something like aumix in the terminal) then using default for any hardware settings in jack will work fine
